Edsall may be gone

@Jordan_Whig: Just read #Terps plan to fire head football coach Randy Edsall during team's bye week, after playing No. 1 Ohio State, according to sources.

If true, it's a good move by them to get out in front of the prospective candidates. I thinks it's a better job than Illinois.

And count me in the group that thinks Schiano would be a good fit for them.

"fans revolting and boosters withholding donations"

"they settled on the easily-terminated extension"

"Once-popular sentiment in favor of retaining Edsall and giving him a chance to reverse his fortunes ...with those incoming [2016] players and a new facility was erased by the embarrassing start and overwhelming disapproval from fans and boosters. "

"but support [home team attendance] has dwindled...including an inordinate number of lopsided losses during his tenure."

Keep making noise - banners, emails, phone calls, and most importantly, withholding donations. Don't go to games. Even Maryland, whose Athletic Department is full of potatoes, recognizes their error and is taking action.

They just extended Edsall's contract in June.

How does the AD still have a job?

I liked him but at the end of the day he never got the job done. Has he ever won 5 games at Maryland? I think they were very patient with him even considering the countless injuries he has endured but at the end of the day that's no excuse.

Next question: Does MD have any recruits worth a **** to try and flip? I still hope Golden is fired but in the meantime... I know we were involved with Dwayne Haskins way back when but I'm not sure about any of their other commits.

They are going after Butch Davis...
Trying to beat Miami to him, unlike Miami...being proactive

If true it might be a good thing. You have to think Davis' choice would be Miami over Maryland. So if Maryland contacts him he will put out the feelers and see where he stands with Miami. If the vibe is good he will turn down the Maryland job.

Unfortunately, Butch would be a fool to trust Miami. He needs ink on paper and cash in hand.

Maryland isn't a bad job for the right coach. The fan situation isn't great as there is little loyalty to MD football and it's more of a Redskins area then MD football but they have money (Kevin Plank of Under Armour played for MD) and the DMV is situated in a solid region for recruiting. If you can keep DMV local kids home and then go into Virginia, PA, Ohio and then pull a few southern kids in, you have a solid recruiting base. It's not Florida, California, etc but there's more than enough talent in that region to be a very good team.

I'm from Baltimore and none of my friends who went to Maryland have said anything about Butch rumors. Until I see that printed somewhere or hear it from someone connected to the program, I'm not buying it at all.

Sad when programs like Maryland and Houston are more bent on winning football games than the once-proud UM.

Funny thing is ESOL coached circles around Tubby Schitt 4 years ago.

Yeah, it's a pretty decent gig. You have a huge benefactor in UA that wants to make the school the flagship school for their product, much like Oregon. They've committed to building a new facility and sinking a bunch of money into the program. I think that's very attractive for a prospective coach. And yeah, DMV area is not bad for talent and you're not to far from Hampton Roads area.

UA has been sinking money into that program for awhile. Money and facilities don't equal wins. That's an 8 or 9 win program at best. Good but small recruiting base that gets pilfered by better programs.

If they couldn't build a fence around that area with Locksley recruiting it's going to be a struggle for anyone because he's one of the best in the bidness.
