1b at RB for The U. I give Ottis 1a, for being first and on those awful mid-70s teams.

Edge ran so smooth and natural. Almost looked like he was out there jogging.

If OJ played on Good too Great UM teams....there'd be No doubt who was #1
Yes. Put Edge on the 2000-2002 teams! Nothing against Portis, Najeh, Jackson, Willis, or Gore, but Edge might have had 2K more than once.

No weak link in Edge.

Great runner? Check (obviously).
Pass catching? Check.
Pass blocking? Check.
Team player? Check.
Durable? Check.

Put OJ on that 86 team...and we beat Penn St....he's the reason I'm a Cane since 75.....Watch his game winning TD run against the Gators in 78...where he ran through and over 6 UF players..

A few great paragraphs:

In high school, I had a cheat code, for real. I used to wake up at five in the morning before school and do workouts by myself in this field behind my house. Then I’d shower and go to school like nothing happened. I didn’t tell nobody — even my boys. It was my secret weapon. And man, I used to do the same thing in the NFL. No lie. It’s two o’clock in the morning, and I’m in the club. I used to see dudes from the other team, and they’re looking at me like, Ahhh, alright, it’s cool. Edge out here partying, too!!! So it’s not a big deal, right? But what they didn’t know was, I’d be leaned back sipping on some cranberry juice. Right in the same type of cup as their liquor was poured in. We leave the club and everybody else is going to the crib to pass out. But I’m in the GYM at three-four-five o’clock in the morning by myself, putting in work. While they was sleeping, I was grinding.

That’s what they don’t understand about The U. See, they’re jealous of the U. Everybody else, they talk about us like we were wild. And yeah, we were wild, like all youth. We were wild as ****, matter of fact. But the U in the ’90s? It was about that WORK. I mean, oh my God. It was FIVE-STARS ONLY. It used to be a dogfight every single practice. Reggie Wayne. Santana Moss. Ed Reed. Somebody was always coming for your spot. I remember we used to have a saying whenever somebody got hurt. They’d be icing their leg like, “Man, I’m out today. I can’t go.” And the reply was always, “**** … your bad.”

Twelve thousand yards. Four Pro Bowls. That’s whatever. That’s playing a kiddie game. What I care about is that I got a daughter in law school. I got another daughter killing it at an HBCU. I got more coming up the pipeline. I’m trying to go six-for-six on college degrees. Let that be my legacy as a man.

Work ethic was just different back then—as was the character of the college athlete (especially at Miami.)

Guys like Edge who signed up to play for Butch when the program was a mess—taking pride in wanting to be the guys who brought the Canes back (and actually putting in the work to do so)—don't see a lot of that anymore.

Either have kids who are buying what programs like Georgia and Alabama are selling—with their big recruiting budgets and insane facilities—or kids who say they want to be part of the class to bring Miami back, only to half-*** it for a few years and then bail early so they can go in the sixth round.

I remember coming home and and my father asked me if I had heard any Cane news. I told him no, and said, oh, so you didn't hear what Edgerrin James looked like when he showed up for paractice. I got a little concerned figuring he'd packed on 40 pounds or something and then he says Edge has 3% body fat and asks if I know how insanely in shape he must be. Must've been that cheat code he mentions.

That was always the funny part and why people kept taking wrong angles on em, and slept on his speed, I use to luv how edge always punished troy palamalou, consistently showed our superior football talent over alot or those west coast boyz although they ball out their to.

I had no idea about body fat and what it meant, I remember getting a physical and the doctor kept going crazy and repeating, "you got 4% body fat" he took that funny clip thing and measured me round 3 times, he just couldn't believe it and I'm looking at em like WTF is wrong this guy, and what's the big deal bout 4% body fat. He almost made me ask him WTF is wrong you, calm yo *** down!

He always has and always will give zero ***** what anyone thinks.

Oh yeah. 39, 40 carries?

I enjoyed watching him the NFL too. Awesome at St. Louis Cardinals, 193 yards in his first game against a good Dallas team. Later, a comeback as a blue-collar workhorse for Parcells and the Giants, trucking some Buffalo DB in a classic SB moment.

Kid was special. Obviously still is as a father. The first game he played he looked like he was beamed down from outer space. Tackle breaking machine.

Did all his Damage on Basically Garbage UM teams.....Far worse than even Edges Probation UM teams....

One of my all time favorite Canes. My first Varsity start as a Charlotte High Fightin' Tarpon was against Immokalee in 1969. Walter James (Edgrrin's uncle) was their all everything player. I was a sophomore Offensive Guard and was named Offense player of the game because I was able to get down on a couple of punts and actually wrap him up before he got on his YAC. He was a beast. The TE for us played for the Dallas Cowboys and said Walter **** near made the team his rookie year as free agent.

My middle son played against another talented James in HS (Think Edgrrin’s nephew) and Edge was at Tarpon Stadium posing for pictures and couldn’t have been a better ambassador from Immokalee. He got a kick out of me mentioning his uncle.

Youngest son, the year they won a Pop Warner National Title played against yet another James carrying the ball - all of them were talented football players.

That’s a beautiful piece of writing right there. Played college ball with some brothers from the Muck (Belle Glade). They were some football players, now - running those rabbits down when they burned the cane fields.

I was born in 91. And like most of y’all around my age Edge was THAT DUDE! For us.

He showed me, you can be true to yourself. Express yourself how wanna while being successful. My mans never got in trouble with the law and went against all the stereotypes people would place on him based on his appearance.
