Ed Reed watch

Why do people think that just because you were a great player you will make a great coach.

Most of the best coaches did little or nothing on the playing field. This infatuation to continually bring back ex Cane players is what’s partially to blame for us being in this situation in the first place.

Ho Li Crap! I'd never - NEVER expect Ed to do this!

Manny might want to jump on this - and Manny might want him to take up a position in the Box during games. He can analyze offenses so fast - he could really help the defensive play calling - AND - our Dcoach in the box actually calling formations would learn a lot from him.

This is a huge misconception about ed Reed. Why yes he used his incredible instincts. Ed watched hours upon hours of game tape and understands how to attack an offense and what an opposing offense is trying to do against all kinds of looks.

Not trying to say he was dumb or didn’t do his homework or anything close to that. His instincts are what made him better than anyone else though. Take a guy with even slightly worse instincts and give him Ed Reed’s aptitude for tape study and he wouldn’t be nearly as good. Some things can’t be taught.

Kobe sucks at teaching basketball because he is able to do things no one else can do and when they can’t do it he can’t relate. Reed seems like it might be the same deal...otherwise, how has NO ONE else hired him?

I seriously doubt Ed Reed wants the 60 hour work week grind of a college DB coach. Let's be honest here...

Kobe sucks at teaching basketball because he is selfish and doesnt want anyone to be in the conversation as being considered as good as him. Ed Reed has the ability to be a phenomenal teacher of the game and I think would be a tremendous hire and would instantly boost recruiting and force guys to look in the mirror and learn to understand what it takes to play at a high level

Dint hire anyone you can’t fire.

He’s largely unproven as a coach. as a player got by largely on instinct that can’t be taught...total riverboat gambler...and for the record, my favorite player ever.

So what happens if he stinks as a coach here? Who wants to fire Ed Reed?

Completely agree with the notion of him underachieving and the fans coming down on him. Been saying that for a long time about all the football alums.

But not sure where you get that he doesn't have a lot to teach. Sure, he had great instincts. But he was also, very, very prepared and a notorious film junkie, which had a **** of a lot to do with his success.

I'm all for it as safeties coach. We need one, he'd be working with Banda who coached our safeties, I honestly don't see how he could be "bad" at it to the point that fans would be calling for his head.

What is the obsession with wanting former players as a coach? If he wants to coach go to it and another school so we can actually see how good you are.

Not advocating a Reed hiring but how is it any different than Panda being the DC.

National Championship ring. Super Bowl ring. All-American. DPOY. Soon to have a gold jacket.

Part of coaching is getting your players to buy in. Just like Manny will get his players to run through a brick wall, so would Reed. He has the gravitas to recruit, especially SFL, but honestly think it would be his biggest issue. Reed does not strike me as the type to entertain the whims of the diva SFL recruit.

But this is an exception IMO. Totally with you on former players. The notion of Dorsey for OC is insane, and my dog is named Dorsey.

And what do you know about coaching ?? How do you calculate that Ed REED would be a bad coach?....the fact he has no experience ?.. hes just one of the best players to ever play lol..

Anyways... what db recruit would say no to ED REED

I guess you’re not familiar with the South Florida divas. Such a stupid comment. There are plenty that would say no to him. Where have you been? I guess you don’t follow recruiting that much. He’s not coming here anyway.

there are almost 0 hof players who are great coaches at any level because they think everyone can do what they can and that's not true they are hof for a reason. name the great players who are great coaches
Ditka, spurrier for starters. There’s literally at least 20 of them that we’re successful head coaches much less position coaches. I guarantee you ed reed knows more about game planning then any assistant on Miami staff, think about how many game plans he’s been a part of and how much film study he’s learned from some of the best in the business. Not to mention one of the major aspects of coaching positions in colleege is recruiting and he would load up on 5 star athletes

How could he be a bad coach?? He knows things and understands things a way that no other player could ever imagine. Yes. He can't teach how to become the next Ed Reed but he can try and help mentor and get these kids right to win nattys and get drafted first round..EASy
How can he be a bad coach??? Easy. All the "things he knows", he knows instinctually. He reacts based on feel and muscle memory. It happens through years of repetition and then it just clicks. For some people it never clicks. It can't be taught, it's just done.

The history of all time greats in any sport being a manager or coach is dismal. Ted Williams flopped as a manager. Tony Esposito flopped as a hockey coach. Most don't even try. The best coaches turn out to be journeymen had had to work and scrap for everything. They can relate better to someone struggling to master a new skill.

I disagree with those say just hand him anything player are expected to earn there jobs people had an issue jon richt handed job how is this different . go do the grad assistant quality control thing coach in hs a yr earn it
