Ed Reed turned down Grambling HC job

“I’ve talked to Coach Harbaugh briefly at times, about things. I’m not a position coach, man. I can coach position but no,” Reed told Baltimore Beatdown. “It’s not a position that I want because for one, I’m working with guys that are probably younger than me. [They] haven’t played the game and just won’t even hear my voice [if I’m] put as a position coach. My voice won’t even be heard. So that’s why I tweeted about being a [defensive coordinator] or head coach. I know what I’m capable of, I know what I aspire for. You gotta know your worth. Like I said, I’ve been in the league around a lot of coaches and looking at some of these coaches get jobs who I’ve worked with. I mean, did you see the interview from the head coach in Philly? You know what I mean?”

Isn't there one canes YouTuber who thinks Ed Reed should be our HC lol

Promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity makes me a bigot?
Lol alot leftist hide their intent to segregate with words like diversity inclusion n equity and Here u are advocating that minorities should be taught by minorities rather than saying every child, regardless of skin tone nationality etc, should be taught by the best possible teacher period.

You justify the soft bigotry to yourself by using those words but in reality your really no different than those fools in the 50s and 60s that thought minorities should only be taught by minorities.

Data doesn’t support your response Joe. I’m sure you never looked or analyze student achievement data. It’s funny how you can call me a bigot when you don’t support equity and diversity.

Ok radical let's agree to go our separate ways. I just hope your not in any position to make any public policy decisions. Minorities only being taught by minorities was already tried and it didn't workout.

The indoctrination is real guys.

It's funny seeing a "I wonder what it takes for Grambling to hire a white coach or a hispanic?" post on a Canes fan site when one of the white coaches CURRENTLY ON THE CANES STAFF got his start in black high schools and HBCUs and has spent at least half his career in those schools.

Coach Stephen Field:
- played TE at Tuskegee (HBCU)
- was RBs coach at Deerfield Beach, Miami Central and Glades Central (all predominantly black HSs)
- was RBs coach, recruiting coordinator, run game coordinator and director of operations at Hampton (HBCU) for 3 years
- was head coach at Miami Northwestern (predominantly black HS) for 3 years
- was TEs coach and recruiting coordinator at FAMU (HBCU)

****, this is Grambling's Offensive Coordinator:

If you look at coaching staffs (and rosters) at HBCUs all over, you'll see they have no problem with welcoming white (and non-blacks in general) people with open arms.

Be a good neighbor and give your straw-men to some needy kids for Christmas

To speak briefly on HBCU's, there gonna get dragged by the large school NIL deals, and big universities paying big money for the very best. There might be a few prospects that will attend HBCU's for the history and tradition, I'll give you that. Can these HBCU's pay for an elite coaching staff that will shock the world? Probably not. The money is simply not there. Division I football is now an arms race, and the illusion of amateurism is rapidly fading in the rearview mirror.

Texas alone is paying their offensive linemen 50k per. Guaranteed. A lot of these young guys (black, white, whatever), are not exactly going to all come from wealthy families. There's going to be a lot of pressure on these young guys to make money and send some back. If I were a young black guy that was a big time prospect, where would I go? Would I go to a school that would virtually guarantee I make hundreds of thousand of dollars? Or would I go to Tuskegee? As much as I admire the Tuskegee Airmen (and in real life I do), guys, I'm sorry, but I'm taking the money. I'd be stupid not to.

After I turned pro, I could always go and finish my school at Tuskegee. That's what I would think, and that's what a lot of the parents of these guys would think.

My personal opinion? HBCU's should lower athletic standards in terms of competition where NIL won't make a difference, and concentrate on STEM programs that will prepare their students to be successful in the work force.

What are we even talking about here? Ed wants to be handed something he doesn’t deserve and he makes a mockery of any former player who took their entry positions.

That's thing though, I think he's OPEN to coaching, but I think he's very high on his own image and wouldn't coach in a position that he feels is beneath his worth. Falls in line with saying he wants to be a HC in a tweet, and then also rejecting the HC job of a FCS team. If it isn't an NFL team, a blue blood university, or a P5 squad in Florida, Maryland, Louisianna, or Texas, probably will never see Reed even accept a HC or DC job.

Well, IF they did offer....and IF he really wanted to be a HC in Division I in the future

Plus already being from LA,.....IMO he should have taken them up on it.

Even though there are light years of differences between South LA and Northern LA....Especially since Grambling is a perennial power in their conference.

Fact is, Deion turning around Jackson State was a far tougher task
