Ed Reed COS?

Think back to the meeting where D'Onofrio, Paul Williams and others were reviewing film and debating whether to offer a certain player. I still have nightmares today over that vigne. Now, insert Ed Reed into the room. Problem solved.

Bring him to me.
Exactly. Even if not an on-the-field coach, if he has any involvement with personnel decisions and recruiting, he would be an asset. He is not some shy, passive guy that will just play along and avoid making waves. He will give his opinion, he is strong-willed and knowledgeable, and he commands attention from other people. How is that a bad thing? How can some think he'll just be used as a spineless puppet to spout excuses for the administration? Doesn't make sense. That's not his personality, it's not who he is.

I don’t care what his role is to be honest. If he wants to come and be around these kids then we all should be ecstatic about it. Number 1 problem with our team has been the culture and work ethic of our players. If you don’t think reed can help change Atleast that then i don’t know what to tell you.

Bro, who the f*ck cares whose idea it is? UM isnt preying on Reed because he's broke and can be paraded around like a show pony. And I doubt someone said, "We need a token gesture to appease the fan base! Call Ed Reed!" I strongly suspect that Reed wants to be part of the program and eventually get into coaching (since he has actually said he wants to get into coaching). If Diaz had hired Reed to be Sp Teams coach, 3/4 of the board who lose its collective minds for Diaz hiring someone with zero coaching or recruiting experience. Now there is an opportunity for Reed to get his feet wet and if Banda or Patke take other jobs or get fired, Reed can be hired into the position. In terms of his film room knowledge alone, the man is worth his salary. Former players in NFL and college have said that Reed is the GOAT at breaking down film. Now take a physical stud like Bolden and let Reed explain what he sees on film. This is a an A+++ hire.

If Reed wants to be a coach come in as a GA where he can actually have contact with the players. With this COS job I’m petty sure he will not be able to do any coaching.

Nowhere did I say we were “preying” on Ed Reed. WTF does that even mean anyway? I am more than happy that Reed wants to be a part of the program but if they aren’t going to put him in a position where he’s allowed to recruit or coach the players what good is it going to do.

And yea if Manny had hired Reed to be special teams coach we’d of all lost our minds and rightfully so.But guess what? He WASN’T hired to be an on field coach he’s being hired in an administrative position. One that as I said I’m pretty sure doesn’t allow for him to have coaching contact with the players.Someone with more info as to what’s allowed can answer this.

So how is Reed going to “ get his feet wet” coaching if he’s not allowed to coach? As far as him breaking down film with players that too may or may not be allowed.I’m not sure about that. What I do know is that is administrative people were allowed to recruit or coach teams like an Alabama or UGA would be hiring 100 COS and asst. COS.

But you need to go back and take a reading comprehension class cause my whole post was about Hoping they were putting Reed into a position where he could do some good on field wise.

Ed Reed being involved in the program is a good thing. Alzono was a problem because being a long-time high-placed NFL executive the rumors were for a GM-type role.

Reed has no experience except one season as an assistant DB coach for the Bills. I have a difficult time seeing Ed handling routine day-to-day administrative responsibilities. He should be involved in football, and not travel schedules.

If nothing else, Reed brings PASSION for the University of Miami. That's something that has been missing from on the field play on up to the administration.

It's a temporary but huge PR win for Blake. Manny and Blake need to defuse fan anger over the refusal to hire Zo to oversee things and do the job Blake can't do. Keeping the position, making it mostly powerless and hiring a beloved former Cane great to occupy will quiet down the fans long enough to get them to renew their season tickets. Next year Blake will just come up with another scheme to drum up excitement and the chinstrap bro fans will eat it up. Next year is our year, bro.
Maybe I isu derstood you. I thought you meant it was a Pr stunt to talk about him in the role. You’re actually saying that having Ed Reed associated with the program is a PR stunt?

I just disagree. He’s the best person you could possibly associate with the program. We may all expect Manny to fail, but I can’t g\fault him for trying, and don’t want to. And getting Ed Reed on board is a great move, if he can do it.

Still trying to figure why any UM fan wouldn’t be drooling at the possibility of having one of the smartest football players in the history of the game around our coaches and players every day.

12 pages of back and forth on “fake job” and “appeasing the fans.” Who gives a ****? You ain’t paying him, and he’s a football savant and a recent enough NFL legend that recruits and their families would melt in his presence. What exactly is the downside?
This. Not just the smartest. Amazing charter, leadership, discipline, wisdom. A mount rushmore type guy.

No clue what the role is or how it makes sense, but he's one of the greatest defensive football players in the history of the ******* sport. And, not simply because he was bigger and faster than everyone. Bring his football brain as close as you can to the program and whatever happens, happens.
Brain aside, the man’s leadership, discipline and credibility are the most important traits he can bring.

That last part. Credibility. The ability to command respect from even this generation of players. Seems like a big deal, no?

Who the **** cares? What is the opportunity cost? What is the downside?

If you don't think Ed Reed has value as a Miami staffer for both recruiting and improving the culture/practice of player development then I'm not sure what to tell you. He's been on championship teams at the college and NFL level. Of all the Miami alumni he's the single most qualified individual for building effective work habits within the program - film study, practice habits, leadership, off-field balance, etc. What Miami needs more than anything is to have a locker room full of players that hold eachother accountable and lead.

Does Reed have a more established resume of evaluation skills than Highsmith? No, but the coaches and recruiting staff can manage that aspect on their own like almost every other program does and has done for as long as CFB has existed. Ed Reed will not be the GM of Miami but I couldn't think of a better candidate to fill a traditional Chief of Staff role and impact the program.
Great perspective! Ask the so called “fans “who are complaining, how the person that is currently in that position doing? Oh that’s right they can’t because no one is filling that role, so they have no clue how a person in that position will impact our program. Why not make a splash hire here and bring someone with instant clout and credibility like Reed. Can’t lose anything that we have never had.

Less than 5% of the people on this board have a clue. Silly talk and negative talk is just a serial hobby for these guys.

My fear, is that if/when **** goes sideways in the future they will drag him out like a Macy's Thanksgiving float, put him in front of a camera, and have him make excuses for everything while feeding the fanbase memberberries. I think that they think we wont be so toxic if a Cane legend is the one spouting nonsense about the state of the program.

If the point isn't to establish a figurehead in the form of a fan favorite legend, and the job really is that influential, why didn't it go to Alonzo?

And LOL at the notion that they wont wheel Ed Reed out to spout bull**** about #buildingchampions when we go 7-5. It will look like one of those Isis hostage videos and it will break your heart.
More pulling my own receipts...
