Ed Reed and Kentucky

Here is the source for anyone interested: Kentucky courting Ravens great Ed Reed to be assistant coach - Baltimore Sun

In my opinion, it’s not a matter of it but when. He will be a coach. He was already an assistant DB coach with the Bills so NFL isn’t out of the question. But he has a better chance of being an actual position coach in college so who knows.

Unless we move Banda, chances are he ain’t coming here. That doesn’t mean we can’t get him in the future though after he earns his chops.

Whatever we got to do to get him. He would be priceless at practice every day and on the sidelines for games. Just get him here.

If you read the resumes of 90% of all coaches, they change jobs continuously early in their career and move around on both sides of the ball. Let Reed coach the linebackers because they seriously lack ball awareness and coverage skills, at which he excels.

It would be amazing if Reed was a successful coach and ended up here.
But this fantasy that some of you have that every player he coaches will be a Reed clone is ridiculous.
Also that he would be an amazing recruiter just because you would sign with him.
He might be a great recruiter but it would not just be because of his name.

Would you wager that Banda knows more about the safety position and the ability to teach than Edward Reed? I get your thought process with most guys... but he was known as being the QB of the secondary and one of the most savvy players in NFL history. That’s more than just instinct

There's no doubt that Ed Reed knows as much about the position as anybody. That doesn't mean it's going to translate well to teaching or coaching. The smartest astrophysicist in the world won't necessarily be the best science lab professor. There's a lot to be said to relating what you know to the people you're teaching or coaching. That said. it's possible that Ed Reed could be a great coach. I'm just not going to assume that because he was a great player, that he'll be a great coach.

I agree with the poster who said let him learn elsewhere and then come to Miami when he is a polished coach

Judging by those clips of Reed coaching at Paradise Camp, He's not ready. Too verbose...too unorganized...kids standing around too much. Rolle seemed to be the best coach out there.

Reed as a non-GA coach is just as ridiculous as Deion as a non-GA coach.

We need a recruiting bulldog/closer on the defensive side of the staff.

Reed aint that guy. I dont see him being a relentless recruiter and kissing the *** of 14 to 20 y/o recruits.
