The AD can make this very simple:

Hire Justin Fuente as HC, and ask him to hire Butch as his DC and AHC.

Fans are happy to have Butch back in the family, the team gets his eye for talent and recruiting prowess, he puts a defensive staff together that gets fans over their hesitation about the Memphis D, and we get a link to Miami's past, while moving forward to the future.

Fuente already has a bunch of former HC's on his Memphis staff, so he won't be threatened. He gets to work with Brad Kaaya. He'll hire/retain some folks to recruit, and he'll win the Coastal in his first season. And can really just focus on the O with Butch on staff.

We missed on Patterson years ago ... And folks still gripe about it today. Let's not miss on Fuente.

He's there for the taking. And everyone can get what they want ...

Butch as AD would get rid of Flake, and stabilize the football program. I'd go with any choice he made as HC. Additionally, Butch could oversee recruiting.

How is it condescending? He hasn't coached in 6 seasons ...

Chizik is a DC, and he has a national title as a HC.

Muschamp went back to being a DC.

If Butch is really about the program, and wants to coach at Miami, again ... Why wouldn't he agree to come as the DC and AHC?

If the options are: Come as the DC or stay in TV, and he stays in TV, then it's not about the program ... It's about him.

You're not going to hire the hot up and coming coach and tell him who he is going to hire as his assistant.

He'll go to South Carolina. Or Maryland. Or USC.

And I don't see Butch taking any college coaching job unless it is Head Coach at the University of Miami.

Hire the best candidate for HC and give him free reign to build the staff however he wants to. If you don't trust him, don't hire him.

I think Fuente would be open to it. Question would be on Butch's side ...

I could see him taking the UCF job if we pass.

WHAT would make you think that Fuente would be open to it?
 
Too many egos can cause problems. FSU was downright dysfunctional when Bobby was still there and Jimbo was head coach in waiting.

Didn't we just have a lower tier Head Coach?

Memphis is playing Bowling Green, Cincinnati, South Florida, Mississippi, Tulsa, Navy and so on.

Fuente is doing very well there, at that level. Charlie Strong did the same thing, but now he's playing the big boys and he sucks.

Get serious.

He could come to UM under Butch, spend a few years, learn a ton more, and THEN take over when Butch is promoted to AD.
