Step dad is a Buckeyes fan. I looked at their schedule and outside of Michigan and Michigan State they don’t play anyone. I doubt Frost has Nebraska back that fast.

I got it. You are saying that Purdue has the easiest path. Correct?

Sorry about your stepdad that must be tough. Jokes aside we have the ability with our schedule to make it to the ACCCG and give Clemson a run. Couple big wins in Dallas and lane and we’re there

Every year people say this stuff.......then a Pitt bites you in the butt like it did with us and with Clemson (though they avoided it). Even Clemson's champioinship year would have been nothing if the NC state kicker could make a 20 yard kick on the road to win it. So no point in doing this right now.

The thread is "easiest" path....not easy path.

The best team in the history of the game needed a bounce off Matt Walters' knee and a dropped 2 point conversion to become the best team of all time. FSU's best team ever needed a kick return for a TD and a fake punt to become their best team of all-time. Nobody just has a cakewalk through an entire season. The Clemson stuff you mentioned is another great example. But there are "easier" roads than others. I agree with Washington.

I think the "easiest" path is Clemson. They play a rebuilding A&M on the road, they get USCe at home, their other 2 OOC games are Furman and Georgia Southern. They get their normal crossover at GT, then draw Duke as their rotating coastal game. NC State and Louisville are home. Really the game at FSU is probably their toughest game of the year, and they'll probably be favored by a TD+. Then potentially a game against Miami in the ACCCG that they won 8 months ago 38-3 and it could've been 60-3 if they really wanted it to be. There's a reason they have the 2nd shortest odds to make the playoff.

I think Miami has to be considered one of the easiest paths to the playoffs. Get to the ACC championship with 0 or 1 losses and you're in with a W

And at BC, FSU at home, GT at their place... We don't have an easy path, especially with such a big question mark at QB.

The path to the CFP shouldn't matter who our QB is. Year in year out we will be the most talented team in the Coastal.

The easiest paths are those teams that have a talent advantage over everybody on their schedule, or at the very least, aren't really at a talent disadvantage. This allows you to have those games where you play like crap. Where the bounces don't go your way. And you still overcome it and survive and advance, because your talent affords you a certain amount of mistakes and bad luck.

OU has probably the easiest path. Texas recruits at their level. But Texas is still probably a year away from getting its act together. Outside of Texas, OU doesn't play anybody that comes close to recruiting at their level. People can talk about how great a coach Gary Patterson is, and he is. But he still loses to OU basically every year, because of the talent disparity. Same thing with OSU.

On a long enough timeline you'd expect the level of QB play to be at least average to good, which would probably make this true. But in a small sample size (which even a season or two seasons kinda is), disastrous QB play can mitigate talent advantages. See LSU and Auburn.
Unless you have a HUGE talent advantage. Which we haven't built up yet. Last year we were 20th in the talent calculator. Pitt was like 34th. And VT and UNC fell somewhere in-between that. That's not enough of a talent advantage to mitigate bad QB play.

Sorry, but you guys are crazy if you think Clemson has even close to the easiest path. Even comparing it to us it isn't easier. A&M with Jimbo is almost as good as LSU even while rebuilding. NC State is equal to or better than VT. USCe are not very good but way better than any of the other OOC teams we are versing.

Plus at the end of the day we can lose a game during the season because we know we are versing Clemson at the end and since they will be so highly ranked if we win we are in the playoffs regardless. Also, if we are undefeated going into a game vs a 1 or no loss Clemson we could very well lose and still get in. That might not be the same for them.

Bama

They could go 8-4 & the committee would still vote'em in.

The CFB Playoff has become nothing more than the annual Bama invitational.

NC State is home, we play at VT. To me, that's the difference.
