My sister-in-laws family lives in Turkey. Everyone is ok, thankfully, they were far enough away.
Complete devastation on their end. But its incredible to see how quickly the world unites in help.

I recall in the 1950s that the US refused to help Egypt with the construction of the Aswan High Dam on the Nile. The Russians stepped in with a billion dollars, heavy machinery, engineers and technicians and reaped the 'benefits' in the entire Arab world for many decades afterwards.

Been thinking on this....politics often trump reality. The Israelis always send medics to tragedies overseas, like in Turkey now, while the Iranians, Jordanians, etc. never do, and it doesnt matter.
