My sister-in-laws family lives in Turkey. Everyone is ok, thankfully, they were far enough away.

Complete devastation on their end. But its incredible to see how quickly the world unites in help.

I get your point, but are the Chinese, Russians, etc. also helping?

If they aren't, it's a win for the US in the eyes of the world. (I say that knowing most on this Board do not care a whit about how we are viewed by foreigners).

I recall in the 1950s that the US refused to help Egypt with the construction of the Aswan High Dam on the Nile. The Russians stepped in with a billion dollars, heavy machinery, engineers and technicians and reaped the 'benefits' in the entire Arab world for many decades afterwards.

Been thinking on this....politics often trump reality. The Israelis always send medics to tragedies overseas, like in Turkey now, while the Iranians, Jordanians, etc. never do, and it doesnt matter.

From a Turkish Cane friend:

Everything in this article is true.

He dismantled the Turkish Disaster Relief office and formed a new Islamic relief organization with his supporters, that totally failed to react to this disaster in the first 48 hours.

Hopefully this election coming up will take care of him.
