The announcer said it was dumb and most people assume the announcers know what they're talking about which is incorrectWhat is going on with these threads? We needed to take more time to ensure the clock ran out.
This lol. It’s been done a million times . You got idiots talking about it there’s a blind side hit on the qb lol. We’re using hypotheticals that’s never happened but I’ve seen two games lost by not kneeling. Lastly if there’s a second or two left on fourth launch it downfield out of bounds. It’s called delaying taking the knee and being safer with the ball. I swear some of you can’t put together some things because you can’t figure out the difference between a flathead and Phillips head screwdriver
Sure, we the GT game always looms in the back of my mind in situations like this. However, I've watched a lot of football, not just the Miami Hurricanes. I've seen plenty of teams take consecutive delayed knees and it not cost them the game.Nothing is 100% certain.
It's the Head Coach's job to make a call given input, weighing risks. I think a QB who runs around for several seconds is likely to get popped (injury risk), and QB ball security is the worst of any position on offense.
Everyone complaining about this is just shellshocked by the 2023 GT game. Just admit that and stop pretending that you alone have advanced analytics for this situatuon.
Yea UNC running the ball on the ten yard line and having to use their second timeout was awful coaching. If they don’t do that it would have forced miami to have to get a first down to ice the game.
You’re already in shotgun and 4 yards from the defense . It’s very common. Google delayed kneels math majors. It’s literally taught for situations like this.Sure, we the GT game always looms in the back of my mind in situations like this. Don’t waste your time , he’s a troll that knows absolutely nothing about ball.Seriously dude
THIS team has struggled with the Hail Mary. Mallory has great ball security. The sequence as called reduced our biggest downside risk.Sure, we the GT game always looms in the back of my mind in situations like this. But running Mallory wasn't necessary. That's my whole point. We can run just as much time off the clock taking 3 delayed kneel downs. Why is everybody assuming Mensah can't burn 5-6 seconds each play just like running Mallory did? Why is everybody also assuming that Mehsah was going to fumble while not ever being hit? I agree that we needed to run some time off the clock, but taking 3 delayed knees would have accomplished that. Not saying running Mallory was a bad decision, it just wasn't necessary.THIS team has struggled with the Hail Mary. Mallory has great ball security. Most of our fans have Forrest Gump's IQThey had three knees against one timeout. They could kill 1:20 with knees. The longer plays ate about 15 seconds and guaranteed UNC would have no Hail Mary opportunity.
For some reason 90% of the gameday thread posts ignored this.
The delayed knee kills 3-4 seconds as evidenced by the last play .... not 5-6But, you don't have to take the knee immediately. Can burn 5-6 seconds standing and moving around in the backfield before finally taking the knee. Didn't have to run any plays. Just take 3 delayed knees. We started at UNC 40, so we had plenty of room to run a few yards backwards each play.
Correct, and we had all the room in the world where we could have easily delayed 5-6 seconds if we wanted. Also, on that last play, Mensah could have burned another 1-2 seconds. He was watching the clock and knew exactly when to kneel. The delayed knee kills 3-4 seconds as evidenced by the last play .... not 5-6
Because worse case scenario you kick the field goal to win. Losing 5 yards a play takes you out of field goal range. Again… math. Mario was 100% correct and guess what, UNC didn’t get another play. Maybe try going from the result and working backwards. That might be easier for you to understand. But, you don't have to take the knee immediately. What? We were winning already. Didn't need to kick a FG whatsoever in that situation. Just needed to burn 1:20. Running the ball 3 times would have accomplished that and taking 3 delayed knees would also accomplish that. Most teams take 3 delayed knees. We would have played it differently then. That was the play that cost them.
