Early Warning Signs

When Al Golden first took over, he was a popular man. Anything was better than Shannon, they said. They called him "the don." "In Golden we trust."

"Al's got this."

But the early warning signs were there. Some of us caught on, and were quickly labeled "mopes" by those whose psyches can't handle the idea that we might not be headed on the right path.

For instance, Golden's assistant coaching hires were a red flag. Was the defensive coordinator from Temple really the best we could do? Was the DB coach from Temple the best? The culture fit was another question. And how well could he recruit?

I'm seeing some big red flags early in the Richt era, and I'm getting the same heat the first "mopes" that dared question Golden got

Look at the assistants Richt is hiring

The Diaz hire was a joke. Anyone being objective could tell you that. And now you've got a first time DB coach working with an extremely thin secondary.

Losing Bush, Howard and Burns is going be huge, and coaching at that spot is suspect to say the least. We'll be inexperienced at linebacker. So good chance this defense doesn't improve at all next season and maybe even gets worse

Our offensive line was the weakest unit on the field this year. We add no talent this recruiting class and we don't upgrade our coaching at that position either.

Our RB's are underwhelming, and there are no Dalvin Cooks, Sony Michels, Alex Collins', etc in this class. Our WR depth is thin and we don't have Miami speed at that position. Sam Beuce would be a great pickup but wil he stick?

I think you've got yourselves pumped up by the new coach and that's fine. In Richt we trust. Richt is the don.

I ain't doing it again. I'm gonna look at the facts realistically and the fact is we're still far behind our in state rivals both in terms of recruiting, facilities, coaching, and talent. Sucks but it's true guys.

Realistically, we have the third best staff in the Coastal this year, and maybe a top 5 incoming class in the ACC...no better. Results will reflect that reality

Well thanks for making it easy for me. I don't even see the point of supporting the program anymore. We hire one of the top coaches in the country over the past 10 years and some bozo with a gun as his avatar is trying to tell me how bleak things still are.

I like Richt, but it takes more than one man to get this thing rolling. Jimmy, Schnelly, Butch had great staffs. Clemson, OSU, Bama, FSU, Michigan, etc have great staffs

Our staff is average. And as great as Richt is, we haven't seen the recruiting bump we would've hoped for

Get this.... UF hired a nobody at Head Coach but they had a bigger early recruiting bump than we

and who exactly did you want to be our coach?

Funny enough, I was the first one on the board to champion Richt. Long before Georgia fired him. You guys called me unrealistic and were calling for Fuentes/Herman, but to me Richt hire always made the most sense

I still like Richt, but I am calling things as I see them.

Maybe the BOT screwed him. We brag about spending $3m per year on assistants, while FSU spends $4m.

We had Aranda in the bag, but LSU is more committed than we are. They spent the money, and THEY will reap the rewards. We had Corey Raymond in the bag, but LSU is more committed to investing in winning.

So once again Miami goes thrift shopping and gets sloppy seconds...and it WILL come back to bite us, just watch

If it happens again with the S&C coach....
We had Corey Raymond in the bag to come to a different school from his alma mater who was going to give him a pay raise? We had Aranda in the bag when we knew lsu would pay more?

We should have ponied up the money for Aranda

Do yourself a favor and stop following Miami football.

You are clueless.

CainIntheBrain, you are clueless. Once again, Cane fans are the worst in the planet. We have upgraded at every coaching position. I wish fans like you should just go away and start rooting for another team. You have obviously not been around college athletics in any capacity.

wait what the **** are you talking about? mcelwain didn't land his 4 star+ recruits until february, and he took 2 of them from our dumpster fire.

Where are all the Georgia commits that were gonna follow Richt and flip to Miami?

The fact that we haven't flipped a single 4/5 star kid from Georgia should concern everyone here

Hey idiot, dead period and now that it's about to end, recruiting will ramp up. Richt focused on keeping the current guys committed and taking out kids who aren't Miami caliber. Jan is for the push for the new guys on our board not currently committed. Richt has out recruited Miami every year but one so I trust him in getting it done.

you should go wait and see worst case, theres no point in getting on this soapbox, you don't know that much, you're gonna be cheering for your opinion and not the team or gonna be torn, theres no point in driving such a hard stance, we're spending double what we did with the previous regime, its a different caliber staff

You are a lunatic.... He was hired December 5th and had 2 4star players Zach mccloud and pat bethel commit right before the dead period. Has a whole month left to recruit. You are acting if this guy doesn't annually bring in top 5 and top 10 classes. This is what he does....

McCloud was a Golden commit, and Bethel is a legacy recruit. Nicely done but hardly impressive

He needs to bring in some 5 star kids

way to move the goalposts. no recruiting bump? we got two huge priorities in bethel and mccloud on board within days of his hire and they were on a timer because they're early enrollees. dead period is about to end and we can go after the other targets/georgia leans that may not have considered us initially.

OK, if you're right then it's a 7 - 5 season at best, but if you're wrong about Richt and staff
and ends up 9 - 3 or better then do us all a favor and post that you were wrong. Moreover,
I think all fans owe Richt at least a year to get HIS system in place.

McCloud decomitted under golden. He was a huge get by that's the type of kid we usually end up losing and regretting in a few years.

I just feel sorry for all the people who think we're gonna compete for championships with this staff, because as I see it, it's unlikely. Could have been the case had we hired a better DC and if we could close the deal on a great S&C coach

I just don't see the commitment from the admin to support a winning program. They were willing to pay up for a head coach as window dressing to sell more tickets...but they don't seem willing to compete with LSU and Clemson, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, FSU when it comes to assistant coaches and facility investments

Not committed to winning

mccloud was also a decommit and we've lost plenty of legacy recruits.

and yeah let's just grab some 5 stars, because those grow on trees. coaches take months, sometimes years, to get 5 star kids on board and you're pessimistic because he hasn't landed one in the 10 days he had to recruit before the dead period?

Didn't say it was easy. You don't get paid $4m a year to do an easy job.

FSU, Bama, OSU, Michigan, LSU, UGA, etc don't have trouble signing up 5 star kids. If we want to compete at their level, we better recruit at their level

I honestly just don't see the point in trying this hard to go against just enjoying some new hope. That's one of the benefits of a coaching change.

they pulled a DC from a perennial winning program in the SEC West, a great DL coach, and will land more good coaches.. they went for Aranda and barely lost to LSU who overpaid for him.. They now have 2 DB coaches versus 1 temple scrub, The OL coach has a good pedigree

There is one thing to be competitive with money but what LSU gave Aranda would have left no money for other coaches LSU has an endowment program that makes them one of wealthiset programs anywhere.
