Early Toledo Thread

Nothing good comes out of these games:

We blow them out? No one will care.
We win closely? The pressure continues to build.
We lose? ******* implosion.

And it's not like Toledo or the surrounding area is a recruiting ground for us. I think the last Ohio player who started games for us was Alex Gall. I don't get the scheduling of Toledo, App State, etc. on the road at all.

Miami DOESN'T have the financial revenue to pay MILLIONS for a " one time " game against teams akin to Toledo. Heck, teams such as Oklahoma, Ohio St., Nebraska, Texas and Michigan, to name a few, gladly pay a sacrificial lamb over $ 1.3 million dollars! For example, the Cornsucker's paid TINY Akron " 1.8 million dollars " to visit their state shrine.

:ibis-roflmao-sm3:What would you know about "Miami's financial revenue"? Make stuff up much on message boards??

For one I have been consistent on this board all summer. Just as consistent as the Nevada and Fresno boards. It's football fandom. If you don't like it then don't read these things.

I came back last season after the game many times. The main post-Toledo thread had some Miami fans apologizing and praising our offense.

Good luck Canes!

I'm rather surprised there's still tickets available for this game being sold on Toledo's website. What's the hype in Toledo regarding this game?

Basically if there are a possible 15k season tickets we sold 13.5k of them. The rest went into the pot as single game tickets. We sold out alotment one of Miami game only in August sometime, then took some of the season tickets that now are less likely to be bought and made them available.

Also most of our single game tickets range from 20-35. 60+$ is steap for us. You either really want to have to go, or be a Miami fan used to high away ticket prices. Our ahletic office is making bank off this game. I also am not sure if Toledo has sold out a game (PRE game day) since 04 or 05. We have probably been close against Bowling Green or Boise State but the allowed students is around 5k in seats, and we let in closer to 9 or 10k for these games. So even if we don't sell every last ticket, we will be a few thousand over capacity. Buzz is high.

Your offense is better than LSU against who? You're not really comparing your competition level and schedule to LSU's, are you?
Woodside was a talented 5th yr. QB who played the game of his life against us; is he gonna suit up again? Have you all stopped allowing 200yrds rushing per game?

Yes, you have a well coached football team but y'all can't hang with us for 60 minutes. No disrespect, but we should beat your team playing vanilla ball on a bad day. That said, we'll need to do our job with a young team on the road.
As a 10 point favorite in our building (if that line is true or close) you cannot turn it over 2 times and let us amass 500 yards again. Toledo will win in that scenario. 10 point favorites rarely play vanilla against a team who plays better than so and wins. You were more than 10 point favorites to Pitt last season.

That is the line and if you knew anything about betting, home teams get spotted 3-4 points so Vegas thinks we're winning this one comfortably. They're cashing in on halfwits like you that think because LSU beat us we're a lackluster team.

Your team doesn't have the horses to keep it close over 4 quarters.

Insert P5 team fans say this about any G5 football team.
Actually halfwits are the many P5 fans which make up more of the betters than those who pay attention to the G5. The Glass Bowl is also worth 4 points. The highest being LSU death valley at night at 5.5. Lowest being UTEP and many G5 schools around 2 points. It's never easy to cover in the Glass Bowl. It's the toughest in the MAC by far. Hard Rock is worth about 3.2 FYI.

But yes about 2 TDs

11-11-2 ATS at home 2014-2017, you're right it's incredibly difficult to cover.

Losses in the GB from 2014 to now are 11 win Mizzou, 9 win NIU, 8 win WMU, 9 win Ohio. 20-4 record at home. Who cares what the spread is expecting us to cover 28 against Ball State and we win by 24.

We’ll win by 24-28. Malik will be throwing against very little pash rush to wide open receivers like last year when he completed like 27/36 passes. Doubt Richt will let him struggle too bad before he’s pulled then N’Kosi will figure it out.

Not true. They have 2 excellent receivers back, as well as quality on the line and at RB. New QB, though, so who knows.

You are correct. That statement was made prior to doing research and being enlightened by several Toledo posters on here. Now, with that said, we are still going to whoop that ***...

Just how many P5 teams have you tallied over 500 yards against in the last 15 years? How many P5 teams have you beaten?

Not being an *******. I'd really like to know, and I figure you'd know this better than Google.

well, maybe that was a tad assholish

You are right that we are not LSU. We actually have a proven track record of having a better offense than them. Toledo has had a good defense once in that time period (2015) which is the on field difference between the 2 types of programs (and all of the recruiting advantages). In that year we knocked off ranked Arkansas and Arkansas eventually knocked off ranked LSU.

points per game NCAA rank:
2010- Toledo- 54th
2011- Toledo- 8th
2012- Toledo- 44th
2013- Toledo- 40th
2014- Toledo- 18th
2015- Toledo- 31st
2016- Toledo- 19th
2017- Toledo- 16th

Coaching has been wildly successful and consistent. Beckman- Campbell- Candle. This year will be no different. Playmakers are better at Toledo than LSU lately too. Sure some great RB'S have come out of LSU but they were still losing games 17-20... We have had NFL caliber backs as well, just with a passing attack attached. It hurts your brain to think about but it's true. Lots of the time it's with guys who aren't recruited anywhere else (Logan Woodside, Kareem Hunt, Cody Thompson). Sometimes it's with 3* guys who want playing time (Alonzo Russel, Bernard Reedy, Desmond Phillips). Toledo is a G5 recruiting genius even it's not the highest number of star recruits but finding guys right for the system. If that wasn't true we wouldn't have blown away some of that Miami blue Chip DB talent in 2017.

Having said that, the defense hasn't come along yet. Miami will be the first test in 2018. IMO we smoke Miami in special teams and everything else is strength against strength/weakness against weakness.

Lol

Toledo is averaging 66 points a game on offense. On da defense they are only giving up an average on 3 points a game. When da Canes defeat da Rockets I don wanna hear none of this "it was only Toledo" crap. They a good team.

Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. They played one game and beat VMI 66-3.

27 P5 games since 2003. Toledo is 10-17 in those games. Toledo is 3-6 against ranked P5 teams (at the time of matchup). Toledo is 6-2 against P5 teams at home.

Yo Miami hasn’t allowed a passing TD this season. It’s not happening against Toledo either. Y’all going to have to run the ball. We have a great pass defense.

Check the stats on us.

We also haven't played an offense worth a **** yet. LSU was heavy on the run and Savannah State was well....Savannah State.
