Early thoughts

I like JW. He seems to be consistently late on his deep ball, other than that he’s the goods.
Also for as accurate as he is why are his bubble screen passes always behind to where players have to spin around to catch them instead of leading them upfield so they can just catch and run around the blocker.

Williams can throw a dime. Had a couple misses, but this guy is our most accurate QB since Kaaya. But he is going to finish with a much better career then Kaaya. Very excited about this kid.

OL is really starting to gel. Yes this was BCU. But they look night and day better then game 1. Remember when we could not get a push against Savannah State last year? This OL is bigger and stronger and really coming together. It is a shame that Clark did not come along faster. With this starting lineup we could have beat Florida. Future looks good there.

WR starting to show me something. No more of the constant dropped balls. Aggressiveness after the catch. Running hard on jet sweeps. ****, Wiggins looked like he shot out of a cannon on his run. Now I want to see continued reliability game after game.

Hodges, TE U tradition continues. Good looking young buck there.

Defense dominated all game. Still have some holes in the secondary. Those young guys will get better. Really look forward to seeing what Bolden brings to the table. We need a rangy safety big time.

Looks like we finally have a punter. Cannot remember the last time we continually won field position and pinned a team deep.

Baxa - get the backup ready. You can see it in his eyes that he shook. Something I never understood about Baxa, on his extra points he mainly pushes them to the right side. Rarely do they go right up the middle. If you can't kick an extra point cosistently up the middle then surely you are going to have issues on longer kicks. Well we see that happening now.
Good post. Really happy to see Enos using our speed to our advantage. We had been calling for them to simply hand the ball to Wiggins and let him run. He has elite speed & it was great to finally see that used.

Hodges looks like a baller. I love that we are Tight End U. Such a great way to create mismatches.

Baxa needs advice from some of our great kickers from the past. He should work on simple things & he should get it straightened out:

1) Breathing in through the mouth & out through the nose before he kicks
2) His alignment procedure (particularly on short kicks from awkward angles)
3) Being more confident & assertive when planting & kicking
4) Getting the ball up faster (not hesitating at all & kicking it harder with a slightly higher launch angle to prevent deflections & blocks)

We badly need an alternative at K in case Baxa can't straighten things out. He has the leg strength. It's the accuracy & mental aspects that concern me a little. I hope he gets it worked out (with some really good help).

Good to see the team dominate a Bethune Cookman. Hope this builds their confidence & it leads to a run in the ACC.

The only positives I took from this game was Manny losing his sh*t and pressuring the O to score before the end of the half and he also ran up the score which we needed to do to get guys snaps. This whole team is still a long way away from being the standard in the Coastal.

I couldn't even look at this board after the first two games. An even mediocre field goal kicker and they are 3-0 and ranked in the top ten. But it is what it is.

The schedule sucks and hopefully a few close games go their way to even out 2 cluster****s. Winning the coastal was the goal, it's harder now, but still doable.

We are a kicker and muffed punt away from being 3-0. No other reasons 1 kid who can not do his job and 1 major mistake

Great post but just remember all that positive stuff you posted was against a glorified HS team...CMU will be better next week so hopefully we can dominate the same way..
BCC is far from being great competition but these games can be very valuable. It gives the team live reps in a real game to work out kinks such as tackling and to improve by gaining that much more experience. These games can also provide the opportunity for younger players(Pope, Wiggins, Hightower, Hodges and Brooks)to make plays and gain much needed confidence. These glorified scrimmages are also quite beneficial in that they allow the offense and defense the chance to gel and to get closer to being in peak football shape before conference play begins. If we had opened the season with BCC and CMU and played UF and UNC in games 3 and 4 things would be different in terms of record. I'm not crying about it as it is what it is and we must be prepared for our schedule as it is written but I am a huge proponent of opening the season with at least 1 and preferably 2 cupcake type teams as they serve as a college pre season. At 63-0 We did what we had to do and what we were expected to do. Now let's keep doing what we are doing and improve every week so we can go into the meat of our conference schedule at 2-2 and in a good place mentally.

GT also played a meaningless game today.

actually, they didnt--nor did Miami (I'll explain below)

these FCS "tune-up" games are all risk and no reward for D1P5 teams.

- risk student-athlete injury

- risk poor performance criticism--indicator how off your D1P5 program is/was on that day

- risk an actual loss--HUGE indicator how awful your D1P5 program is/was on that day
-- likely GT will win another game this season...what if its an ACC squad...magnifies effect of Citidel loss

- gate/TV ad receipts trend downward--fewer viewers

- ZERO credit given for W in close vote for CFBPO slot

could you imagine an NFL team scheduling AFL/CFL/XFL squad as a "tune up" game?

i respectfully disagree.

want tune ups? bring in B-C for spring game.

i just remember savannah state last year and how we looked like we were strugglin

This looked hands down better and much more impressive

The next games will tell if this was truly the start of something nice

You obviously don't overhype this game because it's Bethune Cookman.

But Miami came out of the gate sluggish, but later on started clicking.

This is why I hate playing these prime time games week 1 (or week 0 in our case). We needed a preseason game like this to get everything clicking.

Every unit started to look better, especially last year when we clearly still saw issues regardless of running Bethune up and down the field. This just now needs to translate to wins so we can stop with moral victories.

Payton looked like he could be a beast in the garbage time he played. We need a tall, quick, and strong guy out there more. A bail out 1v1 let him go get it type

JW needs to work on deep ball and has a bit of a long wind up. Besides that, I think he was the right choice and can lead us to some W's.
OL continues to look better. Our running game looks good.
JT4 is the only consistent disappointment. Every opportunity he is hyped as our most electric player. t
The fastest guy on the field, biggest threat, blah, blah, blah. I simply do not see it.
All that said we did what we had to do, on to our next opponent. GO CANES!!!

I agree with everything in your post minus the Jeff Thomas take somewhat. I agree that thus far he has been a disappointment. He is either in some sort of funk or JW just isn't finding him deep. Regardless of how his season is going so far we all know what he is capable of and it's only a matter of time before Thomas explodes on some poor unsuspecting team.

If we play this game first, we are 3-0

IF my Aunt Susie had a **** she'd be my uncle
IF 9/11 had not occurred the NYC skyline would look entirely different

and IF Terry Porter wasn't a ****less cheat

We would have been six time National Champions
