Dylan Raiola Enters Portal

I’ll be honest , I came away impressed with Raiola’s sophomore film. Two years left and pretty **** accurate. Intriguing.

Telling you bro. This is the one. He is exactly the kind of kid you pair with our talent here. Yes, everyone would love to have Lamar Jackson. That kid doesn't exactly fall off trees. You have this kid really focus on his S&C (he's a little heavy for me, IMO. Dropping 10 pounds would do wonders for him) and you put him behind this line and say "Win Malachi Toney the Heisman Trophy". He can REALLY throw the football. He's more mobile than Beck (not saying much, obviously, and again he's not mobile but he's not Brad Kaaya either). I think this kid comes here next year and completes 70% of his passes in his sleep.

The 6 schools in 7 years is eyebrow raising. The emulation of Mahomes is kinda weird. But this kid is a very good quarterback. He's an NFL quarterback. You don't need to overcomplicate this. He's not even 21 years old yet. Carson Beck is 23. Ward was 22 last year. He's already plenty good, and is only going to get better with good coaching when he has a month to throw a football.

What is the context of school changes? It maybe more than it seems on its face.

I like Urban Meyers views of QBs.

Interesting he was talking about Burrow in 2016 when he was a nobody. Of all the QBs in the portal, who has the most competitive nature? Which one makes the most plays when the defense has him dead to rights? Cam Ward is a great example of a guy who fought for every yard and was a great improvisor. Putting aside arm talent, mobility, etc- I would be interested in finding out which QB in the portal has the most success on broken plays.

I don’t understand the 6 schools in 7 years stat. Didn’t he go to 3 HS, but only 1 college so far? And we are really counting HS transfers?

He’s got one more year left. I’m not concerned about the number of schools. If his character checks out, I think he’s got a higher floor than Bailey.

Nebraska fans say he’s slow going through his progressions. People who watch him play, is that true?
The few games I watched he didnt have much time go through many progressions, lol.
And I don’t expect Nebraska fans to go out of their way to say great things about him on the way out.

sometimes the sentiment from fans is that theyre disappointed a player is transferring because he was good and theyre going to miss him. Nebraska fans seem to think he probably isn’t worth the money they were going to pay him. Don’t seem to hold it against him personally but are disappointed by the results of what he was able to do in 2 years. I haven’t watched him play and have just seen highlights which don’t really mean anything so idk would love to know what @Memnon thinks

3 high schools. He was committed to OSU early on, flipped to Georgia, and then eventually signed with Nebraska. For some reason, people are holding that against him

They should be aiming at Rhule.

Sorry, I meant wherever he ends up will be his 6th school in 7 years.

He started HS in Texas, went to a school in AZ, went to another school in AZ, and then ended his career at Buford in GA. Was also all over the place in his recruitment, IIRC. Committed to Taint originally, decommitted, was going to go to UGA, I think he committed there too, then flipped again.

None of this means he's terrible or can't be on a winning team. They're just usually construed as red flags. Again, plenty of people in all walks of life have behaviors that would cause a double-take, but ultimately are fine. There has just been plenty of drama surrounding this kid, let's put it like that. And Mario is a no nonsense type of coach. Would this play here? No idea, but the kid is talented and he'd do very well in this system, IMO. He's got a pro arm.

I get it. And if Raiola was a freshman than maybe you wonder if you can corral that for multiple years. But he’s in his money year so he’ll be wanting to put his best foot forward. If his character checks out and Toney approves, a one year deal is perfect. Everyone wins with that.

I'm with you. That's why I literally made the thread. IMO he'd be my pick, just on the surface. Obviously I'm not in the room talking with these kids when the coaches call/visit them. If Mario and the leaders of the team buy-in on him, he'd for sure be my pick.

I call him a younger , less reckless Beck. When I say that I’m not just talking on the field . I see similarities to Beck off field . Same type of narratives.

Looked heavy this year. Have him lose 15lbs and work with a speed coach. Want to avoid another Kayaa cement feet situation.

I don’t if this guy will be any good, but we need to understand that he was starting as a true freshman, and as we have seen from all the QB’s who transferred, they tend to get better as they get older . . . Just like everyone else in college football (can Malachi Toney actually get better?).

At some point coaches other than Mario may come to understand that true freshmen are almost never ready to play QB at the P4 level. I’m sure the young man thought he was good enough to play as a freshman, but he wasn’t. FYI, I watched a lot of Michigan games and Bryce Underwood was underwhelming, and has a bad throwing motion.

My pint being that I don’t like to judge a QB by the early part of their college career because they were likely playing before they were ready.
