Texas signee Du'Vonta Lampkin won't enroll, looking elsewhere
By Sam Cooper May 31, 2015

Du’Vonta Lampkin, a member of Texas’ 2015 signing class, won’t enroll at the university.

Lampkin, a Rivals three-star defensive tackle from Houston, confirmed the news to the Cypress Creek Mirror and said he plans to join another football program.

Lampkin originally verbally committed to the Longhorns last July, but apparently hasn’t fully met the requirements to gain admittance to the school even after signing with the program in February.

From the Mirror:

Texas has a foreign language requirement Lampkin hasn't met - in this case Spanish - that other schools don't have.

Lampkin said he would've had the chance to fully meet that requirement in summer school and then enroll in August. However, citing previous experience, Lampkin said he didn't want to risk failing to meet the requirement in the summer and subsequently have to enroll at a junior college.

"If I take that summer school class now for Spanish and it doesn't go well, then I end up in a junior college," he said. "That's not the route I really want to take."

Lampkin said he has his sights set on Oklahoma – where he originally verbally committed before making the switch to the Longhorns.

“If anything, I may land at Oklahoma,” Lampkin said. “I’m very comfortable with their coaching staff. So, as soon as everything dials down, I’m going to contract (Bob) Stoops and see if they have any scholarships available for me.”

If he can’t go to Oklahoma, Lampkin said he’s confident he’ll find a landing spot based on his offer list. According to Rivals, the 6-foot-4, 306-pound Lampkin also had offers from Arizona State, Baylor, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, and TCU.

Country twang is a second language in Bama so I'm sure they are all over him like glaze on a donut. Heard Oklahoma was where he was originally committed. I'm sure Charley Strong wants to blow up the admissions office. This kid far too aggressive and powerful and Donut doesn't like these types as if we really had a chance anyway.

LMAO that was trully some funny stuff right there. But this kid would be perfect for Miami as a DT/NT in either 2 or 1 gap fronts

Things is Oklahoma is full and would have cut someone loose to make room for him. Also 8 of 9 Oklahoma assistant coaches are gone so I think Lampkin was putting up a smoke screen about being comfortable with Oklahoma staff since they are all new as of late January 2015 and would not have been able to recruit him.

This kid has no confidence in passing a basic Spanish class, that means he want have confidence in a lot of other classes.

For some people Langauges are hard, were as other subjects may come easier. If anything it shows me the kid is self aware of his strengths and weaknesses an is a long term strategic thinker because he analyzed his risk reward probabilities an made a choice that could land him at Miami if we are lucky! (an yes I had my Cane Shades on making that statement!)

An the plot thickens with this young man according to this article Texas will most likely attempt to block Lampkin from signing with OU (if they are willing to make room for him). Thus further opening the door for Miami to potentially swoop in if the staff chooses to go that direction (which they should).

Late to the Game: The One That Got Away

.......Du’Vonta Lampkin, the three-star, 6’4″, 300-pound defensive tackle from Cypress Falls High School in Houston—now you know where that high school is—announced in a surprise tweet (the best kind) on Sunday that he does not intend to enroll at Texas. Lampkin was originally committed to Oklahoma as a high school junior, but Texas DL coach Chris Rumph got the big guy to flip on January 23 of this year. Now he’s flopping back to OU, if they’ll have him. Here’s what Lampkin had to say in his goodbye tweets to Longhorn Nation:

“If anything, I may land at Oklahoma. I’m very comfortable with their coaching staff. So, as soon as everything dials down, I’m going to contact (Bob) Stoops and see if they have any scholarships available for me.”

I’m sure Bob Stoops has a ton of scholarships just lying around, but that’s not the point.....

Is Lampkin comfortable with Oklahoma’s coaching staff because they are too afraid to bring ferocious beasts into their facilities? We may never truly know the answer.

What we do know is that Lampkin says he didn’t complete his academic requirements because he was afraid of failing and having to go to junior college instead of Texas or another Division I school. Sounds like another case of those risk-averse, line-walking group of ascetics known as Millenials. Shoot for the moon, man.

Texas has an out, though. Since Lampkin signed a letter of intent with Texas, the school has to release him before he can play elsewhere. Now that he’s declared he’d like to head up I-35 to Norman—with, if he’s smart, a quick pause at the Czech Stop—it’s unlikely the Longhorns will comply. Take that......

If this kid was a WR or LB bet our staff would be all over him but DTs is never a priority for Golden's gang.

I agree with your assessment of him, Paranos. He looks really good. Surprised he's only a 3-star.

Will give Stoops credit deflecting the heat from himself an having the guts to fire assistants. That slit between Golden's legs won't allow him to be a man and bring in better Coordinators (OC&DC).

He will probably go to LSU. Maquedius Bain and 3 other football players were arrested in 2 separate incidents, including DT Trey L(crazy spelling). Trey has been suspended indefinitely so they will need a body

Bain gets arrested, Valentine can't get in. You have to wonder how they would have worked out if they had stayed closer to home.

No idea about the competition, but it took less than a minute to decide that I want.

Nope Texas will play a Home-Home series with LSU in 2019 & 2020. In 2019 he could be a red-shirt Senior so LSU is out Charlie Strong would block that for sure.

Here is the article on the Home-Home series with LSU & Texas.

but then again I just found the NLI Nullification Requirements in which he would be free as a bird based on the first item in the list.

Link to NLI Rules (for nullification)
Letter becomes Null and Void

This NLI shall be declared null and void if any of the following occur:

a. Admissions Requirement. This NLI shall be declared null and void if the institution named in this document notifies me in writing that I have been denied admission or, by the opening day of classes in fall 2015, has failed to provide me with written notice of admission, provided I have submitted a complete admission application. It is my obligation to provide, by request, my academic records and an application for admission to the signing institution. If I fail to submit the necessary academic credentials and/or application to determine an admission decision prior to September 1, the NLI office per its review with the institution will determine the status of the NLI.

I don't see the connection between him and UM...

Clearly a #staytuned situation.

Although there is likely no connection between he and Miami, he clearly hates Miami, Golden, Coach D and Jim Morris for something and an epic fail has been committed by everyone associated with Miami including the Big Cheese for not naming a pizza after him.
