Duke University is raising $3.25B ...

We are one of the top academic schools in the country. The Miller School of Medicine is at the forefront of medicine at this point. I think the University has its priorities in order. I hope President Frenk continues the momentum.

Some would say it is not only the top medical school, but the top school overall in the entire southeast florida region

I can't say i disagree.

Top med school in the entire southeast Florida region? What exactly do you mean by that or rather what areas does that cover.

Last I checked, UF's medical school still held the top place in Florida and if we're talking the southeast region of the U.S., there's others ahead of us at this point.

While respectable, let's not try and stretch the truth or maybe you weren't only including the southeast corner of Florida in which case you'd be correct.

Back to Duke, that's a lot of money.

They have the resources available to get that much money and spend it wisely. One of the top schools in the country academically, and always in the hunt for a NC in basketball. Well run school that will use the funds wisely.

And $250M is specifically targeted for athletics.

Anybody know how much of the $1B fundraising effort Miami did/is doing is allocated for athletics?

Duke is one of the top academic schools in the country in the real world. We have a sales pitch from an ranking that came on the admissions growth caused by our football success.

Doctors are going out of business in growing numbers. The changes take a look at the new health insurance policies everyone is being forced to buy, paying close attention the those $6000 plus deductibles, and you will get a picture of the economic future on health care providers. There are even more insidious changes coming, especially in medicare, once El Presidente leaves office. Donna has buried THE U in dark hole that she overpaid for by more than 200%. When the money runs out, the slime that run UHEALTH will have the choice of admitting failure and declaring bankruptcy or medicare fraud. I am guessing that the next investigation at THE U will not be by the ncaa; it an federal agency that knows what it is doing and only has 3 letters. Good luck with that momentum.

This might sink the university altogether. Can just see FIU inheriting our campus. Horrors!

Agreed. How sad is it that they and FAU have their own stadiums.

I have said these many times and I will say it again. Miami does a good job getting money from corporations for the purpose of mostly research. Miami does a poor job getting money from alumni for the purpose of athletics. Miami has very few boosters that want their money going towards athletics.

You let those that donate money decide where it is spent so they just can't move $300 million over from the school of medicine. Miami isn't telling boosters not to donate towards athletics and the only reason why you haven't seen some big drive to build a practice bubble and stadium is because UM knows they don't have the boosters to support it.
