Duke Johnson

Unfortunately he’s played for two abysmal teams; Texans’ Mgmt can’t get out their own way. Cleveland was a chit show until they finally started putting the pieces together.

Duke needs to go to a team where’s he’s strictly a change of pace back. He goes down to easily for my liking & doesn’t break away. I thought he would be much better, but he’s still young. Carve out a Ronnie Harmon type career where u can get the ball 50-60x per year on catches.

Just curious on people's thoughts... do you feel like he has overachieved, underachieved, or been about what you expected as far as his NFL career is concerned?
What's gone wrong for him:

  • durability
  • coaches pigeonhole him as a scatback/receiving back. Above bullet only reinforces that view
  • never had great vision/anticipation/footwork between the tackles. This is something I missed when I watched him on the Canes as it wasn't a focus for me
  • Used to have elite acceleration now it's not as potent
Still one of the most natural receivers in terms of ball tracking and ball skills. He's the best 3rd down back on the market now and I'd gladly take him on the Bucs.

This part I agree with

He’s not an every down back, but he’s a very useful utility back with a 5+ years left in him.

For those like Dwins negating his ability, he’s a going to end up being a productive 10+ year NFL veteran with a pension and multi-millions in the bank.

His straight line speed is not tops in the league but he’s quick, effective in space, and as previously mentioned, an excellent pass catcher. He’s a guy you want in there on third down as a possible running or even better as a check down option.

Also as mentioned previously he’s played for two of the most abysmal teams in the league. That has a lot to do with his production.

With the right team this relatively young man should produce. There’s a reason every coach he’s had loves him.

Duke was incredible in college, but the NFL is another animal. I kind of expected him to have a career like Giovanni Bernard's, but it's more like a poor-man's version of Bernard's career.

P
I never thought he would do anything in the nfl cause of the speed issue....he's did what he did though given the opportunities. Love him as a cane but he ain't elite like people want to think he is. He's a good backup
i think the injuries he suffered in college slowed him down , his cutting and juke ability was never the same after the injuries.

3%, but there are other leaches out there that try to get a cut.
He's gotta be like this
