Duke Johnson> Melvin Gordon??

I think that I've heard those comments before...

"- and so you have to wonder if Miami is in a similar situation with Al Golden of you’re going to get four or five-star kids who end up being better in the NFL than they were in college and that’s kind of what ran Mack Brown out down at Austin.”

Hmm, that means that many non-slurpers could have second careers as NFL scouts. Either that, or that scout hangs here.

NFL GMs love Al. He artificially reduces the demand for UM players and the NFL teams pick up great players at bargain basement prices. I'm sure the NFL brass would love to keep Al at UM forever.

Gordon is listed at 6-1 207. Duke is listed at 5-9 206. It'll be interesting to see how the weigh in and run at the combine.

I'll take Duke's explosiveness and versatility over Gordon.

Wisconsin RB's are generally "system" RB's. They put up big numbers in college and do nothing in the pros. I think Gordon is legit and much more than talented than the usual Wisconsin RB, but the I'll take Miami RB's over Wisconsin RB's any day - just look at the track record.

Plus Gordon has more mileage on him. Once Gordon gets to the league, how much gas will he have left in the tank after year 4? Duke hasn't been used that much in the 3 years he was here. Gordon will prob be a little better then most of the WISC back..but I would still take Duke all day.

Disclaimer: I am assuming Duke runs AT LEAST a 4.5 40 at the combine/pro day. He runs any worse then that and I take back the above statement and go with Gordon first.

The quoted part makes no sense, all the guys getting raves had successful college careers aside from maybe Chick.

As a realist i have to go Gordon. Duke gets hurt every single game. he has a ton of heart and is a fighter and i commend him for that but durablity is a huge issue for me. i remember his sophomore season i was like i wonder when duke is going to exit the game for an injury. as a NFL GM thats a huge concern. my concern with Gordon is that when the lights are on and the stage is bright. he disappears in a big way. Duke flourishes in those moment. but the NFL is Not For Long and i need to run like Gordon into the ground. if duke can somehow overcome his durabilty issues. he will be a versatile weapon.

Is Duke better than Ameer Abdullah?

I think Ameer is more durable and can handle more carries. Makes him a better draft choice. IMHO

Still Duke is Cane and always will be.

Not even comparable IMO. Despite Abdullah running all over us. Duke is a better player.

If we bring up the conversation about fumbles. Abdullah has very questionable ball security.

I think fumbles, ball security, is a wash.
Duke is probably a better receiver if you want to give him a plus.

Always considered this RB class.

1. Gurley
2a/2b Duke & Gordon
3. Abdullah
4. Coleman
5. Ajayi

Sadly for Gurley. He will slide due to his injury.

Better runner and receiver. Returns too IMO.

Ball security is big time. Numerous guys lose their job in the nfl if they can't hold on to the ball.

Wisconsin and Nebraska gear their offense toward heavy run game.

I can see Gordon being a take before Duke. Since he is bigger.

Abdullah I can't. Duke is better than Abdullah.

Honestly Duke was underused here actually.

Man, you must have been reading my mind. lol

I just hope that Chad doesn't fall under the same situation. Dude has 1st round talent, but this defense may make him into a "value pick" (Rounds 3-5) in a few years.

I honestly think the biggest reason why Duke gets hurt so often is one of the reasons we loved him so much. This kid just never goes down easy! He was always making that last little juke or twist or split second body adjustment even when he was starting to get tackled..to make sure he got every inch he could. A little like Walter Payton....
Did he ever get hurt just from a rock solid hit or tackle? I don't recall one.

Nope just his ankle issues. Going to be a good NFL back

I recall Duke taking himself out a lot after a big run or big contact. He did give 110% all the time.

I guarantee Duke will check in a under 5'9" at the combine, and will probably just crack 200 lbs.

Duke is thick for his height, but I do think he needs to test well in the 40, shuttle, and both jumps in order to ensure he is a day 2 pick.

I know it doesn't make much sense, but it is very possible he doesn't get picked until the 3rd round, and even until the 4th.
But there is no doubt, that who ever takes him, will get some amazing value.
