Duke Johnson - 2015 Re-Draft

Duke is a stud. He and Landry are both going to eat with Tyrod at QB

He should have waited and tested the free agent market or demanded to be traded and not sign that deal. He could have gotten a much better deal. **** the backup rb McKinnon from the Vikings last year wasn’t as nearly ad productive as duke yet he walked away with a 37 million contract with the 49ers or something like that. Duke was better than him and i hate that he settled on his contract. Luther Campbell’s wife dukes agent did a horrible job with that period
Can’t preach this enough, happy he’s making more but he left so much on the table. Gurley just signed a massive deal, Bell is due up next year, David Johnson has 1 year left and you mention McKinnon who duke is much better than. Should’ve rode this year out or just signed a 1 year extension, because now he’s locked in for the next 4 years and very quickly that contract won’t be competitive at all.

It won’t be at all, he settled right before the rb market was about to shift which is the sad part

Disagree. Duke is a great change of pace back with awesome receiving skills. Not an every down runner, not a big/durable build, and injury prone.

He’s a great Cane and I’m rooting for him, but I don’t see how duke would get a better deal on the open market after this season, especially with Chubb and Hyde presumably taking most of the carries.

The RB market isn’t about to shift. Gurley got a large deal — that won’t create any massive domino effect, especially anything that would impact what Duke will make.

Sure Duke has been banged up minorly a few times but he’s played in all 16 in each of his 3 seasons. He’s not a 20 carry a game back but he’s certainly deserving of more than 5 carries a game he’s gotten the last 2 years.

In an offense like the Pats or elsewhere he could turn into a star.

Yes it is
McKinnon who was less productive than duke last year just got a massive deal with the 49ers to be the featured back.

Devonte freeman recently got a big time deal

Gurley just got a monster deal

Bell will get one as well.

Barkley just got a great deal

Teams are coming around to paying rbs more lately

Really interested to see how Duke is used in Cleveland now that they added Juice and Gordon is playing. It doesn't seem like they want to feature him much as a runner since they signed Hyde and drafted Chubb and there are a ton of mouths to feed in the passing game. He's been a better pro than I thought and it makes me happy to see him do so well. A true Cane
He’s probably going to be used like Dexter McCluster was used in Tennessee...but on steroids because he’s double the playmaker.

The 9ers signed their fullback to a four year deal for 20 mil, too. That didn’t change the fullback market, but probably forced their hand in what they paid their running back.

Bell hasn’t gotten a deal in the past two years.

Barkley is a rookie.

Gurley got a big deal. That’s all. The market isn’t changing.

Sure he could be great on the patriots but how would that give him a better contract?

1. I generally think he should leave Cleveland just for playing time purposes.

2. A possibility could’ve been to play out this final year and if he wasn’t able to sign a longer deal that he wanted then sign a 1 year prove it deal with a team that will use him and hike his value up.

It's a really hard call....

1) I totally agree that I'd like to see him somewhere other than Cleveland.

2) That can be a real gamble. He might lose touches to Chubb/Hyde this year. Injuries can always hurt your value. He may just end up taking the same risk on a 1 year deal next year, so he'd be gambling on himself twice.

His deal is very much on par with the top 3rd down RB's - Gio Bernard, James White, Theo Riddick, Bilal Powell, Dion Lewis, etc.

RB's get churned out in the NFL - so it's a hard choice to pass up the stability & guaranteed $$ in a pretty good deal, to role the dice someone will try to use and pay you like Devonta Freeman or Jerrick McKinnon (and I think the 49ers made a mistake on the McKinnon deal).
