DTs

An now Michael Wyche is starting to look like he may be a low football IQ type that lacks discipline, which would be to bad given the opportunity infront of him.

He has been here for 3 months, stop. Remember how green Gus looked last year? Any player who comes in after June is never going to be in shape physically or mentally for that season, everybody should know this. The coaches no longer have time to work on him in those levels, they have to prepare for the 1st game.

It has been said a few times, that our 2 gap system is not very inviting to DT's because they are glorified blockers 50% of the time, which no elite DT wants to be. Not to mention recruits who are naturally built for a 2 gap system aren't generally considered elite but most likely are 2* or 3* kids who are massive and extremely strong with long arms. Then the players generally need at least a year of S&C to develop into solid contributors. If you notice the visitors list from last had very DT's on it but a ton of skill players, yet on the field there is a glaring need for both improved dline quality and coaching. When you have players on your roster that are upper classmen who merely take up roster space that is a program development problem.

Jelani Hamilton should have been shown the wisdom of transferring, but he is ST Thomas Aquinas guy so UM can't push him out.

Corey King should have been driven over to FIU/FAU by a UM sponsored Limousine three years ago he is the team strongest player in the weight room but can't translate that into on field strength.

Earl Moore was dropped by FSU during his senior year recruitment for a reason, he has short arms but is very strong like Cory King but his short arms inhibit Moore's ability to shed blocks or prevent blockers from getting into his body. Also Earl Moore's connection with Hillsboro HS recruiting helped with landing 2015 QB D Lawson ( who will be a good one at UM).

An now Michael Wyche is starting to look like he may be a low football IQ type that lacks discipline, which would be to bad given the opportunity infront of him.

So that is 3 or 4 DT's on the depth chart that UM missed on badly, which puts stress on the Two deep rotation that should be a 4 deep rotation.

Go Canes

I don't see King and Moore as 'misses' -- they were fall-backs, IMO. King was a scramble reach and Moore a kid we recruited but probably didn't have at the top of our list. The real issue is inability to recruit real difference makers. Your point about scheme is part of it, no doubt. Some of it may just be our DL corch not recruiting well enough. Some of it may also be the culture of UM -- skill position players and hogs are just different guys, and the big state school environment may well be a better fit for many linemen prospects. So Fla also doesn't generate that many big DL, and of the ones they do generate, some don't have academics or have other issues. We get very great kids locally to recruit for interior DT, and we've totally whiffed on the best ones for years now.

The lack of difference makers at any position on D was blatantly obvious on Saturday night. When the offense went cold in the second half, we needed someone o D to step up and make a play, no one did. We have no one like Ramsey on this defense

Ive heard that jethro is kinda annoying in his recruiting tactics, as for the scheme one of the reasons TV didnt come here was because he didnt want to two gap, well that and other things, our best DT we have gotten in these last recruiting cycles was moten and he hasnt played all that much, but our lack of pass rush was very evident in the game

Point taken but Bush had a difference maker performance for Saturday on defense.

Oh believe me I know if your a big boy you will get more lovin at a large state school than Model body types only need apply Miami. I know everybody needs loves as they say. As for the academic support for dlinemen you hit that on the head also.

Take a look at these two 2015 DT's an tell us if they would fit the difference maker type role while playing within UM's current 2 gap scheme. Both of these linemen would love a commitable offer from UM and would commit.
