DTs and Jackson update - Tuesday 11PM

Damb...all kinds of bad to lose both of them to the draft. D-Tackle is looking shaky depth wise heading into next year...

Willis
Ford
Bethel
Silvera
Carson or briggs?
Will be enough in the regular season

Willis - 14 total appearances in 4 seasons since high school, and not because he isn't talented. Nobody should be counting on him at this point
Ford - young, inexperienced, under developed for the role people are expecting him to step into
Bethel - under sized, under productive, not a true DT, is going to get man handled by high level interior lineman
Silvera - not even on the roster yet
Carson or briggs - not even on the roster yet

Absolutely unacceptable and troubling going into year 3.

How Doherty, or whoever the recruiting coordinator/roster manager has a job at this point is absolutely baffling.

How someone thought bringing back a member of Golden's staff, arguably just as baffling.

The recruiting coordinator (regardless of who holds the title) is the head coach. This is on Richt. 100%.

They need to consider getting Djax up to around 275 and moving him inside, especially coming off a knee injury.

Gonna need to get creative.
maybe pinkney can put on enough weight to slide down inside... or irving can move over from pretending to be a te and just finish the process of getting fat

Oh thats right

I'd be interested to know the strategy behind the DT recruiting the past 3 years. What I see is a staff asleep at the wheel.

It’s mind boggling. Nesta isn’t even a guarantee at this point with early playing time gauranteed. I just don’t understand what Richt’s strategy is here.

Counting on draft eligible players to return and counting on Gerald Willis to have his head screwed on right is not a strategy.

Richt gave Kul the Assistant HC title and has said he has complete autonomy in DL recruiting. That needs to change.

The strategy is to trust coach kul, he is the best in the business, or at least that has been what was parroted by the maroons as target after target committ somewhere else, or we stop pursuing players that apparently were not even better than the air that is currently occupying the defensive line roster spots.

Just a little perspective

In the 9 games he played in 2016 he had 19 tackles, 5.5 for loss, and 1.5 sacks as a reserve

RJ had 54, 12.5 for loss, and 2.5 sacks as a starter

Its whatever at this point. They played with only 4 DTs this year and it looks like it will be 4 next year.
