NASHVILLE - Coach Will Muschamp said Gators defensive tackle Leon Orr is no longer a member of the team following a disagreement with coaches about the starting lineup.

When Orr found out he was not starting Saturday night at Vanderbilt, Muschamp said Orr was upset and eventually decided to go back to Gainesville.

"That was his decision," Muschamp said after the Gators 34-10 win. "I said, ‘If you go home, you’re done. You’re not a Florida Gator anymore.’ I appreciate Leon and his contributions to our football program. He felt like he should have been starting. I thought we’ve been productive with the four guys that have been starting.

Orr, a senior, has not started since the Gators' 42-21 loss Sept. 20 at Alabama. Orr needed surgery to repair a minor knee surgery suffered during the game and sat out an Oct. 4 visit to Tennessee and Oct. 11 visit from LSU.

He did not record a tackle on Oct. 18 versus Missouri.

Junior Jon Bullard moved from end and made his fifth start at tackle at Vanderbilt. Bullard had six tackles against the Commodores.

Bullard's replacement at end, Bryan Cox Jr., is tied for the team lead with four sacks.

Since allowing a school-record 672 yards to Alabama, the Gators entered the Vanderbilt game yielding an average of 279.3 yards during its past four games. The team gave up 308 yards against the Commodores.

"I explained to him the situation since the Alabama game of why we’ve made a move, we’re more athletic with Jon Bullard inside," Muschamp said. "I like the production of the guys we have inside, you’re going to go in the second series of the game. He said he wanted to start and he was leaving is he wasn’t starting. So that’s fine. I asked those four guys, ,who’s better? They all thought they were better. That’s the way it goes."

Orr was expected to have a prominent role in the game. But after he spoke with Muschamp, Orr opted to leave the team and return to Gainesville by bus.

"Guys aren’t going to put themselves above the team," Muschamp said. "Not here.

Will Muschamp: Leon Orr off team
Sam Khan Jr. [ARCHIVE]

ESPN.com | November 8, 2014
Florida*defensive tackle Leon Orr did not participate in the Gators' 34-10 win against*Vanderbilt*in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday night, electing to return home after learning he wasn't going to start.

Gators coach Will Muschamp told GatorZone.com that Orr expressed displeasure when told he wouldn't start against the Commodores, the fifth straight game he hasn't started. The fifth-year senior, who was expected to be a significant part of the defensive line rotation, chose to go home to Gainesville, Florida, on a bus.

"He was more concerned with starting than being part of the team," Muschamp said.

After the game, Muschamp told reporters that Orr is no longer a part of the team.

"I said 'If you go home, you're done. You're not a Florida Gator anymore,'" Muschamp said. "Appreciate Leon and his contributions to our football program. He felt like he should be starting; I think we've been very productive with the four guys that have been starting."

Orr has appeared in five games this season and compiled 16 tackles, two tackles for loss and one forced fumble. He started twice this season: the season opener against Eastern Michigan and the Gators' loss to Alabama on Sept. 20.

He has played in 38 games, with 10 starts, in his Gators career. He has 62 career tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one fumble forced and two fumble recoveries.

Dont like Muschamp but I cant blame him for this one

perhaps..but we don't know the other side of this story. I can see Muschamp being one of the biggest ******** in the world when dealing with a defensive player who has attitude problems. It is possible Muschamp coaching style over time crossed a line, that any self respecting person could no longer deal with ... . or you are right and this kid is just a baby.

orr was a linked to gangs in high school. he didn't show good judgement during his recruitment. he won't last long in regular society. my2
