CanesInSight caught up with one of the best defensive linemen in the 2028 class. Four-star defensive lineman RJ Wyms, who plays at College Park High School in The Woodlands, Texas, spoke highly of the Hurricanes program and expressed genuine interest in the coaching staff.
Per 247Sports' own rankings, Wyms is rated as a four-star prospect, checking in at No. 35 nationally, No. 6 among defensive linemen, and No. 4 in the state of Texas.
The 6-foot-1, 255-pound lineman put together a dominant sophomore season, finishing with 49 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, six sacks, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
When asked which programs are recruiting him hardest, Wyms named six schools.
"The schools recruiting me the most so far are Tennessee, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Duke, and Texas Tech," he told CanesInSight.
Despite not listing the Hurricanes among that group, Wyms made clear Miami is firmly in the picture.
"Miami currently stands in my top five," Wyms told CanesInSight. "They are one of the best programs in the nation, [and] I'm looking forward to getting to know more about the program and the school."
"I have not met Coach Cristobal yet, but [I've] been coached by Coach Lewis and Coach Taylor at camp last year," Wyms said. "Coach Lewis called to offer me. I really like both coaches, I think they can help me get better."
Wyms has expressed interest in visiting Miami in the near future, though no date has been set. For now, his focus remains closer to home.
"I hope to take a visit to Miami soon but we [have] not set a date yet," Wyms told CanesInSight. "I'm really focused on getting ready to compete for a state championship with my team."
