That’s a bunch of blah blah. We’re not making their decision for them. But we can discuss the pros amd cons of it. It’s a football discussion board.

I loved it, it was where I wanted to go since I was 7. There were definitely people/things involved that put a damper on it at times but it was a dream come true for me. I used football to further my education so obviously my mindset is different than most of these guys

NFL rosters are small and with all the injuries these days, teams need guys to contribute right away. Very few teams have the depth to really "groom" a kid unless it's a QB.

Once you get cut a few times without putting out any game tape, teams stop calling. Veterans with tape can bounce around but young guys have a VERY limited window to show out.

IMO, it's best to be in your best physical shape and most experienced possible before taking that leap unless you had a stellar year and are a top pick. Teams don't cut Day 1/Day 2 picks. They cut Day 3 picks without even blinking.

One downside of playing in Paradise where you see people flashing major coin on the regular, you want to get to that money quick. You can lay back in Tuscaloosa or Clemson and run the show on a 2-for-1 Golden Corral stipend; not so in Miami.

I always said i would go back for my Masters later - yeah, that never happened. The longer you're out the harder it is to go back. I love to learn but hated classes and standardized testing. In the end it didn't matter for me bc my industry is about experience and decision making as much as it is degrees.

So i ask, why not finish it out now while getting bigger, stronger, faster (possibly) and more experienced so you are at your absolute peak for that NFL job interview?

He’s right. Garvin and Joe Jackson sold themselves short. They could have continued to develop their games in a favorable system. Garvin was even worse because he coasted.

I think he will stick in the league like AQM and Joe Jax. But after the Notre Dame game, it looked like it would be more.

Thats the problem right there, Garvin made a couple plays in mop up duty.. something for fans to see potential for future but only at miami can you really make maybe 3 plays and they want to put you in first round.. Nobody makes the first round off a couple plays when the game is decided in mop up duty..

But at miami, you get hyped to leave early off of someone else clout.. Those days are too far gone, you not going first round off "NFLU" name no more.. You at best are bargain basement

A complete misunderstanding of the system by this younger generation. In today's salary cap environment, rookie contracts are some of the most valuable assets held by any professional franchise. Watching and reading some of the "you better take your shot now" advice isn't just flawed, it's an unnecessary risk for some players. "Oh, but I can get hurt my senior year and..." Yes, there's insurance for that if your potential is sufficiently valuable. You know what there isn't insurance for? Getting cut because you're a 6th or 7th rounder or UDFA. This is even more extreme now than just a few years ago with guys like Forston. NFL front offices are looking for more finished products they can keep at a low cap hit for 4-5 years!
