Clemson won it's first ACC title in over a decade and then promptly went out and had the worst bowl loss in history, having 70 points hung on us in a BCS bowl. Many thought Dabo would wear that millstone the rest of his life, bearing permanent injury that Clemson could not recover from under his tenure. Our message boards read a lot like yours now.

Dabo lost 5 in a rows to our rival, while no previous 4 coaches had ever even lost back to back to the Gamecocks. Having South Carolina as a rival, we had always counted our blessings, since we dominated the series previously. While we had good overall records, many thought that Dabo just wasn't the man to get us over the hump. As I said, Our message boards read a lot like yours now, with irrational posts lamenting the ability of our head coach.

Like I said, just some perspective.

One issue is money.. Clemson shells out a lot to keep a large talented staff together.. most ACC schools get poached. Miami saved a lot of money having a HC also be the OC... Pretty clear Right is a great manager and leader of the program... but he seems way past his prime as a play caller. Could Miami pay big money to add an innovative OC???

Great coordinators aren’t readily available. They all become head coaches. That’s why I’m skeptical about Richt and why I want nothing of Diaz as a head coach. You want an offense? Get an good offensive mind as head coach.

Thanks for this post. Great perspective.

I do remember when you gave up 70 points in a Bowl game.

We will be contenders soon enough. Have a feeling this game could have Clemson and Miami consistently.

No matter what team it is, the boards will always be the same.

If your winning, everything is great. Everybody praising players, coaches, admin.

If your not winning, everyone needs to get fired, need to play 2 nd string , need better recruiting, better play calling, hire this guy fire that one.

It’s all the same no matter if it’s ACC SEC B10 B12 whatever team from whatever conference.

Although true, that doesn't give me solice considering the woodshed beating we took last night and the abysmal inexcusable loss to Pitt. Unfortunately as of now all we have is blind Faith and that hasn't gotten us very far the past 15 years.

Good post OP. The difference is that Dabo was a young gun that was adapting trying to find his way as a first time head coach to prove himself. Richt is more set in his ways after 17 years of being a head coach with a proven track record of success.

richt is limited on offense. he has had two qbs in a row who dont process the game fast. He has one rb, one te, and his best wr is hurt.
when you are playing cager, langham, and dayall together in the rotation and have soft upper classmen on your ol, youre not beating elite teams.

I was telling people I watched the game with that Clemson took their share of lumps before making it to the position they're in now. As mentioned The 70 point Orange bowl game, getting blown out by fsu at home in 13 overtime loss to fsu in '14 without jameis playing. Miami can bounce back with recruiting depth. Last night was a combination of better overall personnel, missed opportunities and fatigue from playing 11 straight weeks with no rest.

Most of us who suffered through the last decade and the mid-90's get it, and we know it's going to take a few years for Richt to build depth and run his system with his players. But even the most jaded of us couldn't help but think that maybe we actually were "back" when we were sitting #2 in the CFP standings with a trip to Pitt to close out the regular season.

But in the very back of all of our minds we all knew the outcome that played out over the last two weeks was just as likely as the above scenario, if not more so. Pitt was a wake-up call, last night was a reality check.

I do think Richt is the right man at the right time to lead our program, but we're going to have to wait and see if he can be the one to get us over the proverbial hump.

I know Miami will be a top 5 team for most of the next 10 years and Clemson and Miami will meet again in this game probably 7-8 more times in that period and Miami will win their share. Clemson is just better than Miami right now period. Especially if Herdon and Richards aren't playing the 2 guys we have on O who would start for yall.

Great post I agree 100.

We have no TEs, no OL depth limited RB depth and biggest of all an inconsistent QB who is very inaccurate and limited in his reads. Its obvious what was going to happen when you play elite defenses. Venables and Narduzzi are two of the best DCs. Some of yall need to calm down. I been saying that about Clemson, that 70 point was one of the worst thing u ever seen. We will be fine. Its sux *** but we just need to win the bowl game and get reinforcements.

This season was fun. We ran out of steam, especially with no bye week since the hurricane. We will be rejuvenated for the bowl game.

Btw Miami is the only school maybe in the last 70 years who has won titles with 4 different coaches. We will be back on top not too long. Steps were taken.

Also if you think Richt cant call plays, you're our your mind. The guy is limited with the QB.

I see seasoned team like Ohio St get 55 put on them by Iowa. UGA who is in the playoff got beat 40-17. They have better QBs than Rosier. The Rock is a fortress again.

Dabo seemed to tweak his staff until it was right. He fired the DC and brought in Venebles after the WVU game.

Miami is a good team BUT our Canes aren't a great team or elite team.. Ppl expect just because Miami has that U on their helmet, that team is suppose to be elite BUT that's not the case!! Our Canes are not there yet, WHY ppl expect for this team to be elite.. "Some of these players on the roster aren't even Miami caliber" BUT the staff have to work with they have AND "I think they did a really good job".. Then some ppl never realized how injuries started to effect this team after the ND game!! We had a lot of players playing injuried the last half of the season and AGAINST a team like Clemson, the lack of depth really hurt our Canes.. Our OFFENSE was really hurt from the injury bug and it showed!!

All this talk about coaches not doing this and that needs to stop, Miami needs more top recruiting classes to get it right!! BUT I DO AGREE, that CMR might need another offensive minded person with him making the play calls..

This Miami team has really showed progress from year 1 to year 2 under CMR, but our Canes just aren't their yet and we need Storm18' to be a top class!!

Doesnt this apply to the staff too? People expecting these coaches to be different just bc they have a U on their jacket?

we're still 2 seasons away

and that's bare minimum

why?

simple, offensive line

Look at how many upperclassmen, many who were left for dead or expected to transfer, all of whom are Golden leftovers, contributed significantly this year. That's the staff developing players and getting the most out of them. Under the previous staff you had to wait to for our guys to get to the League to get that kind of coaching.

Point is, many of our underclassmen, ie, Richts croots, have contributed significantly this year, or just shown flashes when given the opportunity (Jon Ford). Their development is much further along at this stage than we're accustomed to and it's going to pay exponential dividends when they're Jr's and Sr's.

We have issues, but nothing that can't be fixed. Objectively I think Richt and staff is doing more with less at this point, we overachieved this year. If Perry or Williams turn out to be legit, the next few years should be fun.
