Last 4 games will put that passing D to the test

UNC up first will be a good barometer to see how aggressive we will be in the secondary and if we can maintain that aggression throughout the game.

Scoring D is skewed a little. We have given up 4 non-defensive TDs. That's high.

Also we played 2 option teams and VT, who can't pass, Famu, and Ark St. Any slurpers that wants to talk about pass defense with that schedule can suck my ****.

I realized this the other day, outside of getting punished on the ground against Nebraska and gt, the defense hasn't been putrid. This should be our biggest concern if we're hoping for any changes.

I personally am not agenda driven about this--I only want success. We'll see what happens the rest of the way. If we handle the mediocre teams and hold our own vs fsu then why should he be fired? Clearly that would equate to significant and ongoing improvement. If we fall apart, we'll know that a lot of this is just bad offense.

But I don't think he'll fire the guy just to fire him. 4 years of ineptitude warrants a firing. 3 years followed by massive improvement is a tougher sell even if you dont like the style of defense.

Exactly. Not a fan of D'Onofrio so far because while there isn't anything fundamentally wrong with this defensive scheme, it requires a very high football IQ and near perfect execution by every player for it to be effective, which is too much to ask at the college level. But if he tweaks it and shows improvement, then we have improvement. Nothing good would come of a mid-season shakeup anyway, so playing out the season and making a decision at the end is a sensible way to handle it.

On the flip side, our D was ranked 31st after 8 games last year, and finished 89th.

It reminds me of a Chinua Achebe book. Anyone remember the title?

You left out UL.

We allowed 31 points (without Parker), that is pretty chitty.

Our D will finish in the bottom 50 like it did last year. Nothing had changed in the last 4 years so it just doesn't make any sense to expect otherwise. It's not magically working all of a sudden. The worst 4 teams are behind us.

Didn't most of us say if the Defense finish in the top 40 it would be considered a success? Outside of FSU there's not an offense left on this sechedule that can truly dominate our D. Finishing in the top 40 looks realistic, but even with a top 40 finish we need a change because if this defense finishes top 40 in this scheme it would be a top 15 in a 4-3 attacking scheme.
