It would be great to see Butch get the job and to be smart enough to realize UM would be unstoppable running the Chip Kelly spread up tempo.

Hire Matt Lubick as OC. The dude is a gem trained by an offensive mastermind/QB guru in Cutcliff, and he's also had a couple years to absorb the Kelly system at Oregon. His dad coached here too, so he might have some familiarity and affinity for the area. He's also an excellent recruiter.

I'm praying it's true. Not that UM can't **** up anything, but the fact that they've had to move back the end of season press conference and haven't even pinned down a date definitely lends itself to something abnormal going on. Would be strange to do that at the start of a new semester so long after the season. Money talks and bull**** walks and one has to think the last 6 weeks of pure vitriol towards the program has given them pause. Imagine their thought process right now if they can't even send out a happy new year tweet without backlash - what's it going to be like with an actual football tweet if Fat Al's still here? I'm sure behind the scenes there are even worse signs than we're seeing publicly like staff bickering, even more excuses and blame games from Fat Al, and decommits.

All that said I don't trust them to get the next hire right unless a white knight comes to them like Larranaga did. Remember reading that he wasn't on their initial list but he sought out the position for a bunch of reasons, location being a big one since he had a house in FL. Butch almost definitely has supports reaching out on his behalf, is certainly pushing hard publicly and would likely come cheap, so there's probably some sense there. It's interesting he wasn't on ESPN yesterday, but maybe they just cut down their staff because there were less games (and less studios need)? Ferman predicting something different certainly bodes in favor of it actually happening.

Haven't read the whole thread yet, and the rumor has probably already been debunked, but you're giving UM too much credit. Do you still think they're not a totally reactionary group of incompetent out of touch buffoons?

It's completely within the realm of possibility that these idiots had no idea how bad this situation was until the fans made it obvious over the last few weeks just how toxic it is. If you don't think fans pounding them constantly via email and every social media portal could make a huge difference with this group, then I don't know what else to say.

Add to that the fact that recruits are jumping ship by the minute, and Folden has gone into hiding from fear and you could have a percolating situation.

This press conference thing is really weird. I think Al may have a heart attack if the press does a decent job at confronting him about the season. This is what Al wants though, he wants to coach under this mess...good luck and drop dead Al!
 
Al and staff will be out scoouring Bulgaria for talent over the weekend.

Excited if al goes, but not sure why board is so obsessed with only focusing on people from the past, as great as they were at the time.

not saying we shouldn't, but you have to explore options and not assume that getting remarried is a guarantee of success.
