Coach D is going to make the haters look like the small minded fools that they are.

"haters"??......Dude aint worthy to be hated on....GTFOH....put up or shut up with that guy for me....his mindset is still seen in the interview...

"There were a lot of different scoreboards that you can look at and we look at them all, we don’t ignore them."

B*tch your giving up chuinks of yards, which leads to points on the board...which = to 5 losses last year.

I'm not MiamiNights, but you've got a serious issue going on upstairs until you find proof that I love Randy Shannon.

Put me in the camp that is very concerned about coach D'Onofrio. He may be a guy who shows success because of the strength of recruiting but Im very concerned that he will continue his passive mindset. its simply who he is as a D-coordinator.

He had the 16th? ranked defense with temple talent.. i think we'll be ok.

To look at the stats -
Scoring Defense in 2011 #22 at 20.1 ppg (2012 - 30.5 ppg ~#87))for scoring defense
# for total defense #47 with 359.9 yards/gm (2012 -486.4 yards/gm-#116)
(Arkansas scoring was 30.4 ppg & 409.9 ypg)

When not playing tons of freshmen and 1st year starters in 2011, the D was not bad total yards and good not great ppg; so again did the D coaches forget how to coach D - I will wait and see how the D performs this year with more experience - and I prefer attacking and creating constant confusion for the opposing OL and QB etc - not much longer now to see the D this year.

For comparison to the current king of the mtn (until UM knocks them off) - BAMA who had much better D (according to friends/family) in 2011 was #1 in both scoring (8.8) and yards/gm (191.3) and last year #2 scoring at 10.7 and yards #1 @246 yards per game - and I have lots of friends and family who are BAMA fans and they all thought the D was not close to the 2011 D last year despite still only giving up ~2 more ppg and ~55 yards per game.

They played against similar talent though. And they weren't exactly void of talent on that defense. Some of those guys are in the league.

A 47 ranked defense is not going to help you win a championship. I want a top 10 ranked defense in scoring and total defense. If Alabama can do it than gosh darn it so can we. And I don't want to stay ranked top 10 til we can prove we can stay there.

Temple was #3 scoring D in 2011 @13.8 but #16 in total D ie yards
If UM can have scoring D @ 20 ppg or less then UM can compete and have a great year regardless of total D.
Going forward - I agreee top 10 D in both.

The fact that we're actually hoping for a top-50, or even top-25 defense, is pathetic. We're used to having top-10 defenses around here. There's plenty of experience on this defense now, and although the depth isn't great, the main guys who are in the rotation are plenty talented enough to get the job done.

Next year we're gonna be absolutely loaded and if we're not a top-10 defense by then...something is wrong.

I hear this a lot about their talent at temple. who do you think developed that talent. I mean you make the nfl from temple you are obviously an overachiever. who helped the playerss develope?

yea it is pathetic. I think last year was horrible coaches and players. look at some of the gifs made of our horrific play. I guess what I am saying is jimmie johnsone could have coached last yr., and maybe we brake 85. this year we are bigger faster stronger, but it is the same group of players. imo we will be better , but to demand top 10 defense is laughable at this point

My belief is that the estrogenated, bend but dont break style will break down in big games. The critical failure of this approach to defense is that is concedes the time of possession battle, which I find to be of critical importance. Again, big games are where you see the failure of this approach. Letting an offense into the red zone time and time again with the belief that you can eventually shorten the field and cause them to only get a field goal will not do well against top shelf offenses.

Yes, the 2010 Temple Owls had the #17 overall defense in the country... But they were 85th in time of possession.

Yeah, because the people who were angry and frustrated with the worst defense in school history had no reason to be and were just, "haters and small minded fools." They weren't as learned as you and couldn't realize the inherent defensive genius looking back at them as Miami allowed 3,600 yards per game. The charlatans dared to question his coaching abilities as UM scrambled to add a third digit to the "visitor" side of the scoreboard. If you want to claim that they are/were shortsighted because they said he would always be a terrible DC and you felt otherwise, that's fine. But complaining about people calling a steaming **** a steaming **** is downright retarded.

We get it, for whatever reason you've already staked out the "Dorito is a defensive genius, who knocks on Buddy Ryan's head and gives him the "Hello McFly? Anybody in there McFly?" treatment. We gotcha. And man I hope you're right. But you're either out there on that "Dorito is a defensive God!" limb, just to be out there, or you're there based solely on a couple years at motherbleeping Temple.

And no matter which way you slice it, neither reason is a real good reason to be walking around in August doing self high-fives because of some boilerplate press conference answers. Answers which I might add probably don't differ from last year's boilerplate press conference answers.

How about the defense doesn't show up wearing crotchless uniform pants with prelubed azzholes before you stick your chest out about how right you were?

Let me guess, Miami was 82nd in total D in 2012 due to the players, but they'll be __ in 2013 due to the coaching right? That is super convenient. He set the bar staggeringly low and then is going to get "credit" for vaulting the defense all the way to "average to somewhat mediocre." Freaking Dorito. He lights the nursing home on fire and then gets the key to the city because he saved some little old ladies.

the bottom line was he coached that pittiful d last yr. If you couldnt look at depth chart at the beginning of the yr and see they would suck, then I cant help you. For me defense is more players than coach.
