Seems like we got a few players out of Texas back in the day. Armstead comes to mind. No reason not to fish out there some.
Kevin Williams too.
Lance Leggett but he ended up being a bust but he was originally from FL.
Lay off my cousin Geo. Lance wasn't no bust and yeah he's from Bartow he transferred to grace prep after my senior year him and Justin Forsett.

Good stuff, FG305.
The thing that makes Texas a good place to recruit is that the bulk of the kids do not have the same level of state-loyalty as other elite football states in the south. Its easier to pull a 4-5 star kid out of Texas than it is to pull one out of Louisiana, Georgia, Tennessee, etc... At least that has been the case historically.

Lots of really good players and lots of really important contributors on our very best teams.
People in South Dallas absolutely love the University of Miami because of what it meant in the late 80s/early 90s, Armstead (who was an all-time HS great and legend here), and even Irvin. It's one of the most fertile recruiting regions in the country and kids love the U. Criminal neglect the last 10-15 years. We will never have a list like this from Jersey, Georgia, or Louisiana.

Are you saying Mike Irvin was from Texas? No, he went to STA in Lauderdale, I think. Let me tell you: Louisiana, for its population, is second to none. Great talent in that state. We used to get some because of that WR coach, Johnson, who went to the Saints and then Tulane. Our recruiting there went downhill when he left. We also had to compete with a resurgent LSU. Georgia and Jersey are excellent states for football talent. We just could never get that many from Georgia--it was owned by UGA and the southern schools. I've spoken here of the Fla-Ga All Star games every summer. That was before the big national A-A games. The Fla-Ga game probably had the most talent of any HS all star game. Often enough, Georgia would win. I saw some great talent on some Georgia teams (as I did on the Florida teams.) Charlie Ward comes to mind. Not as much skill talent in NJ but it's still a top ten, if not top five, state for talent.
In fact, i remember when D'Onofrio was a blue chip LB coming out of NJ and one of the best in the country.
I wish I could remember all the New Jersey talent: the LB from Mullica Hills who started on the 89 NC team, James Lewis (01 NC team), Bryant McKinnie, Danny Stubbs, Greg Rakoczy, Greg Mark...some pretty good players since the early '80's. Greg Mark and Danny Stubbs were two of the greatest DEs I ever saw at the U. Incredible sack machines, on a par with Rusty M. Better than almost any other DE in the last 30 years, including that tall one from Denver who is now a star in the NFL.
I wish somebody would make an *** out of himself and say we should never recruit Arkansas...so we would never find a Rusty Medearis. What a shame his career was wrecked by a dirty block.
Swag, you have been pretty consistent regarding South Dallas. I'm sure that you have passed that info along to those you know that have passed it along to people affiliated with UM which makes the lack of emphasis even more ridiculous.
