D'Onfrio fired at Houston

Major Applewhite had no other choice but to let go of Mark D'Onofrio.
There was no way to justify bringing back the embattled defensive coordinator after one of the worst showings in school history:
• No. 106 in scoring defense (34.4 points).
• No. 124 in total defense (488.5).
• No. 129 – and dead last nationally – against the pass (291.4).
• No. 97 against the run (197.1). In the final three weeks, Temple's Ryquell Armstead rushed for 210 yards and American Athletic Conference single-game record six touchdowns, and Memphis' Darrell Henderson had 178 yards and two touchdowns in Friday's 52-31 loss that denied the Cougars a spot in the league title game.
• In four losses, UH allowed an average 54.8 points.
• The 412 yards allowed this season are the fifth-most in school history. The 5,862 yards are second-most in school history and are 456 yards shy of the record that could fall in the bowl game.
• UH allowed three opponents – Texas Tech (63), Temple (59) and Memphis (52) - to score at least 50 points for the first time since 2003.

That justifies a firing .... then again, nothing he did justified his HIRING!

Mark Richt's offense could score 40 against D'Onofrio's defense.

What's the money difference between being the NFL #1 overall pick and the #10 overall pick? That's how much Ed Oliver should sue D'Onofrio for. The guy went from a sure fire #1 overall pick to being the 3rd D lineman on the board because nobody can actually get a sack in No'D's defense.

Miami total offense: 95th
Miami scoring offense: 51st

UH total defense:124th
UH scoring defense: 106th

For real ... id thought this talent would prevail and he’d be a top 3 pick but donofrio is so bad that hes going to drop

WRONG!

D’No is a genius. First off, he knows that sacks and TFLs are illegal, and should be avoided like penalties. Second, he knows that the primary responsibility of safeties is to remain safe. The best way to do that is to play as far away from the possible action that you can. That’s why you see his safeties playing on the end line in goalline situations.

People just don’t appreciate his genius.

The knock on him is that if you're going to be a 275-280 DT, you'd better be able to get after the quarterback but in D'onfrio's garbage system, Lawrence Taylor would only have 2 sacks.
