They always did things forbidden by the NCAA.
Now, they want some additional freedoms as everyone can pay their players - openly.

Dudes an idiot. If those two conferences were to do just that- Iowa State will cease to exist.Pollard for Miami AD!
I don’t understand why Miami fans would ever want to go to the BIG-the SEC is the best sports conference out there-and it ain’t close. And this notion of not being a “national conference” is completely wrong. Miami is a brand- just like the SEC is. And college sports fans around the country know that brand- and tune in. The numbers don’t lie. Miami, when good, is just like the SEC. Everybody wants to see you lose and everybody wants to be the one who beats you. There are a few academic elitists on this board who want the BIG association purely for academics- because it surely can’t be for athletics. Getting to SEC stadiums for the vast majority of us is much easier. And quite frankly- the SEC environment, in total- is much better. Now imagine that environment in every SEC stadium with Miami rolling into town. The SEC would protect Miami just like the rest of their league- the BIG would throw us under the bus and not think twice. You’re talking football results. SEC still has the highest TV viewership, game attendance and $. This is what controls college football.
Hes calling their bluff. SEC isnt going leave, theyre just cry babies and have continued to pull that threat so they get their way.Dudes an idiot. If those two conferences were to do just that- Iowa State will cease to exist.
I couldn’t disagree more with this. Miami and the Big X would be perfect for each other.I don’t understand why Miami fans would ever want to go to the BIG-the SEC is the best sports conference out there-and it ain’t close. I’m sure I’ll be corrected if I’m wrong but from what I understand the case to be… there have been two occasions (over 40 years ago) where there meaningful discussions about Miami (and/or FSU) joining the SEC and with UF being a founding member of the conference they had/have veto powers regarding who joins especially in state institutions. And UF has zero desire for another Florida school to in the SEC so they shot it down.I don’t understand why Miami fans would ever want to go to the BIG-the SEC is the best sports conference out there-and it ain’t close. or the schools up north that allow their doctors to fondle and abuse their athletes including one current politician who defends it.My level of disdain for SEC is about as even as my disdain for that school that let a man poke little boys in PA.
uf uga wouldnt want another florida schoolI’m sure I’ll be corrected if I’m wrong but from what I understand the case to be… there have been two occasions (over 40 years ago) where there meaningful discussions about Miami (and/or FSU) joining the SEC and with UF being a founding member of the conference they had/have veto powers regarding who joins especially in state institutions. I heard this 20+ years ago and of course I’m not familiar with SEC bylaws and voting rights but if us joining the SEC is in UF’s hands I don’t see any scenario where that would occur.

There will be a day when the sport’s biggest programs take their ball and play in a new park. But it’s not going to be a conference by conference type of breakaway. If some media entity decides they want to form a new college football league and break away from the NCAA, they’re not taking the conference bottom feeders. They’re going to take the top 50 or so money makers regardless of conference affiliation. Now some schools might protest because “college football isn’t the same without the Penn State/Rutgers rivalry” or some type of bull**** but when faced with the choice of joining the big leagues or getting left behind, every major program will throw conference loyalty in the trash.
You think executives at ESPN and Fox aren’t ****ed that they have to pay Missouri and Maryland just to broadcast Georgia and Michigan football games? If they could trim the fat and replace the bottom feeders with the top level programs from the ACC, Big12 and Notre Dame, they’d do it in a heart beat.
I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen either. Unless the conferences and schools realize it is their car to drive and not the TV networks', this will be a possibility. There will be a day when the sport’s biggest programs take their ball and play in a new park.
