Does this mean SEC leaving the NCAA?

Imagine they just make it harder on themselves while everyone continue to fight it out Wild West style. I’m all for lapping them if they wanna restrict themselves.

I’ll give them credit though they see what’s happening and don’t plan to sit there and just let it happen.
IMO this is a direct result of Miami and Indiana flipping the switch and going from also ran and never ran to a title and “oh, crap, they’re back!”

Its truly an interesting concept. On one hand the media loves them some SEC teams as they all have massive fan bases who watch games and spend money. OTOH without the SEC in the NCAA, how will the media be able to prop up the middling SEC teams in an effort to make Alabama's wins over Missouri look better than Miami or Clemson's wins over SMU and Louisville? They wont have the same media mechanisms.

Bottom line, everything we're seeing from the SEC is a reaction to the fact that they no longer have cover from the NCAA. They're not sure what to do next. Taking their ball and going home seems like an admission of this.

Leverage ploy to get Congress to push through the legislation the SEC and B1G want to put in place an enforceable rules structure for College Football.

Petitti is using similar muscle to spur expansion to a 24-team CFP.

Meanwhile, helpless Jim Phillips goes on TV to talk about the ACC's academics and lacrosse championships
they hate that NIL ruined their cheating. **** them

I mean really, where the f**k are they gonna go. What’s their plan? Just gonna play each other and have their own playoff? How is that BS gonna work. It’s all just sour p*ss over the losing their grip on CFB. They were the big swinging D**ks when they were dropping bags and scooping up the talent. But now, although flawed, the system has leveled the play field for the major college programs. And, these boys are acting like little b*t*he’s like someone stole their lunch money. Instead of putting forth realistic solutions, they’re taking the path of least resistance and leaving. I think it’s just blowing smoke out their **** and fronting a bluff. If not Bye Bye🙌🏽

The sec boycotting the cfp would be hilarious

Recruiting would take a nosedive

I believe it’s gonna happen eventually. It’ll be SEC and Big X bouncing.

Imo, just posturing. They ain't going nowhere. Some of the less-resourced programs in FBS might decide to compete at a more manageable level, but that's lower-end schools making their own decisions

At this moment Sankey and Pettiti and their school presidents may want two things above all else:

1) The ability to legalyl enforce rules in recruiting, the portal and eligibility, i.e. legislation in Congress to help put a lid on the chaos we see now

2) Collectively maintain a firm grip on power at the highest level of college athletics

We need to be in that ship when it does.

Gotta believe Miami is too valuable to be left behind (and to the SEC/B1G cartel the Canes likely fall in the category of "keep your friends close, but your enemies closer)

Literally by themselves? this is another one of those things that sounds good until they try it. People will get sick of something that regional really fast- NASCAR had to evolve to get the big money, NWA wrestling was the best for most of the 80's but couldn't compete with the WWF eventually, and even hockey had to expand south to grow. How would they even do a playoff- just replay the same 4 teams who battled in the regular season? And how would they compete with a larger, more national, equally if not better funded organization? They have too much sense (and the SEC schools value $$ over pride) to even try it.
If they team with the B1G? It could work, but likely would grow beyond the 34 teams currently in it, as some of them don't want to be a doormat, even if they are among the best of the best.

I think they have their sights set on Miami- I don't think they care if Miami is on the rise at all, matter of fact, I think they prefer it. And their commish is smart enough to see what Miami would be in the SEC. Miami would become one of their marquee programs the moment they landed in the SEC.

Its all speculation at this point, but...

I'd suggest you not take what the SEC is saying at face value. Its likely not that they want to or would leave the NCAA, but the threat of doing so would be ammo for the government to justify some form of legislation that politicians call sell as them "saving college football from total collapse, or some other grandiose type of thing.

After what Golding/ole miss pulled with that LB at Clemson this is rich

They’re falling behind because they don’t have real “**** you” money level boosters. The game has gotten even and they don’t like it
