Computer Access Crime under Michigan law means that a person used a computer to allegedly commit a crime.

For example, and purely as an example, if a person uses a computer to look at photos/videos of minors, that person could be charged with a Computer Access Crime in addition to Child ****. Or a person could commit fraud using a computer and be charged with a Computer Access Crime. It literally just means using a computer to commit a crime, allegedly.

My buddy said it’s not child ****

He mentioned fbi would be investigating if that was the case
Most likely but not necessarily. I have seen child Po*n cases prosecuted in state courts.

Typically the only rhyme or reason for who prosecutes a case; fed or state, is who the police take the case to first. Feds and State have concurrent jurisdiction for most criminal charges. There are exceptions like when something is clearly a violation of federal law, or is too small for the feds to care (90% of the time).
So if the police department that began investigating is a local or state PD and they take their investigation to a state prosecutor, that is typically where it stays.
As an example, I have defended 10+ kilo cases in federal court and in many state courts in Georgia. Just depends on which police department was running the investigation.

Yes and no. CP is going to be a state crime too. Typically the investigations involve a joint task force with FBI, HSI (homeland security investigations), and state/local law enforcement. For most CP, they let the states take jurisdiction. DOJ will take it when talking about someone with massive amounts of CP and/or are producing it.

The exact focus of the investigation was unclear late Tuesday, but it's the latest legal inquiry to emerge during an offseason clouded by the threat of recruiting violations. The confirmation of the change in Weiss' employment status came less than two hours after UM Deputy Police Chief Crystal James issued a statement prompted by questions from The Detroit News about law enforcement searches on Jan. 10 at Weiss' home in Ann Arbor and at Schembechler Hall.

“The University of Michigan Police Department is investigating a report of computer access crimes that occurred at Schembechler Hall during Dec. 21 through the 23rd of 2022,” James’ statement reads. “Since this is an ongoing investigation, there is no additional information to share.”

Weiss, 39, requested a copy of the deputy police chief’s statement Tuesday when approached by The News and confirmed he is “fully cooperating” with investigators.

“I am aware of the ongoing investigation by the University of Michigan Police Department and fully cooperating with investigators,” he wrote in a text message. “I look forward to the matter being resolved. Out of respect for the integrity of the investigation, I will not have any further comment.”

Two sources familiar with the investigation say Weiss’ home in the 2000 block of Norway Road in Ann Arbor was searched by investigators Jan. 10. The sources, including an eyewitness, said law enforcement officers and unmarked vehicles were present at the home.

Got caught wiring a bag
It’s probably done wire fraud or money laundering

Didn’t he and Harbaugh not get along? Or was that another random thing made up on CIS?

Gattis would be perfect. He knows the coaches, the system, half the players, and he's a former Broyles winner. He can run Jim's system. I wish him the best with that interview.

Oh yes, for sure. Soooo many teams need Gattis. Really he should go.
****, UM should be willing to pay part of Gattis’ salary for another school to take him. Like teams do in the pro sports when they want to trade a guy but the other teams think the contract price is too high.
