My gut feeling is that Brennan Carrol has actually been axed by Golden
They let his father announce that he was brought in Seattle for PR purposes only
He's joining his father staff to do what exactly ???
This is more a dismissal than any kind of promotion and I don't know what we are supposed to miss about him
well, at least your not speculating.
I have a friend (former UM player from the '60's) whose son has just completed two years as a special teams assistant for the Seahawks. I don't think these are bogus positions. I'm not sure what their responsibilities are, but they could be numerous. Perhaps breaking down film on an opponent, helping to run drills, keeping stats and information on plays you've run, etc. Some of you guys might know more about what a junior-level assistant might do. Probably like a graduate assistant in college.
I don't see any "quality control" coaches on the Seattle staff, so maby these "assistants" are the junior level guys who do what quality control coaches do for other teams. [Correction: checked again and they do have QC coaches--I missed them the first time I looked.]
Now the fact that he's going into such a position with his father's staff, might mean that was cut a break by his father (who has employed him at various times). He's going to be an "offensive line assistant" which means he will assist the OL coach, Tom Cable. The other "offensive line assistant" is already Golden Ruel, a former UM player from the early '70's. Pat Ruel was Carroll's OL coach for at least part of the time at USC. I believe Carroll and Ruel are good buddies, so I think Carroll might have made a position for him when he needed a job. Maybe he did the same for Brennan.
So, maybe Brennan was kind of pushed out.
