Does anyone else think our LBs and secondary were exposed...

Unfortunately, though some of the busted coverages were the young linebackers. Two of them were Carter. Now that is a senior safety. Those are Touchdowns against most any team in the ACC. I also saw those plays. There were a few running plays where guys just took on the block the wrong way which let the guy outside, but those are absolutely the easily corrected type of plays. Its the fact that we had guys biting HARD on mediocre play fakes that has me a bit worried. Obviously, some of that is the fact that they had not showed much of an ability to stop our pass rush and they were trying to establish a run. But that one third down play where we dropped 8 and the QB threaded one between our two senior safeties for a first down is scary when you take into account the level of competition. That play should have never been completed.

On a good note I thought the DL was impressive. The overall run D was very tough looking. They protect the middle of the run game that is for sure. I loved the way those young LBs were attacking the LOS and the blockers that were coming at them. It was fun to watch. I really like the overall trajectory of this defense. I think the potential is really high. Maybe not this year with the lack of depth. Because that will surely kill us. Our second team looked very weak against very weak competition. Knowles, looked completely lost out there on a couple of plays. The second team LBs did ok but nothing great. Our depth will be what eventually undoes this defense.

But man lets be honest, who is excited to see those freshman LBs take the field again this saturday? WOOED! those boys are fun to watch! Even if they make mistakes..... at least they are hitting someone or something hard!

ND, UNC, VT, & NCST are the teams I'm worried about defensively because they spread the ball. our 3 & 4th CB's have to be ready.

This is a very young and thin group especially at LB. They are going to make mistakes but they better get it fixed before Appl St. For the poster who ripped Richt for the Diaz hire I think Richt learned a few things from GA. 1.) Never give up play calling capabilities especially if you have the experience and desire to do it yourself (JImbo with The Semenholes calls the off plays who knew better than the other guy to delegate the job to Coley) and 2.) Loyalty to an asst who sucks gets you nowhere but the unemployment line.

As a result if something or someone is flawed fundamentally after year 1 Mark will ensure loyalty won't get in the way of making a move! I think Diaz will be ok but the true test comes in Oct. I see a wiser Mark Richt and this bodes well for the fans and "the process" moving forward.

We heard that term so many times by inept coaches made us want to bust out chainsaws! Truly great leaders don't need cliches to remind us "Hey give it time something special going on here!"

I saw a few blown assignments, but when they go in the film room and come out, I think they will be easily corrected. I watched a LOT of football this weekend, and in EVERY game, I saw the same thing so let the Coaches coach them up and lets see the progression, maturity and growth of the young men on this Team from week to week.

This defense is going to wind up in the 50s or 60s. Simply not enough bodies for any type of prolonged success.

I think our running game will give this Defense the breaks it needs to refuel and recoach, then come back out on the field and play violently! We will not have to throw the ball 45 times a game this Season. When you can run clock and control the ball, your defense has more than enough time to rehydrate and stay fresh.

^This. I fully expect the freshman LBs to make some mistakes but our play at safety concerns me more. Counting the days wanting Saturday to hurry up and get here to see how much we improve on both sides of the ball.

Makes me nervous that Miami won't face a real passing team until FSU.

It's a boom or bust defense, especially considering the depth.

Get used to it.

You mean considering the DC. Diaz defense is always feast or famine, no in between. That's something we will have to deal with. We are going to give up big plays to everyone. Simple as that. But it's a fun D to play in so kids will be lining up to play in it.

Well Jimmy's defense was predicated on the same thing. Be aggressive, but big plays will happen. Just have to hope the aggressiveness causes enough negative plays or turnovers to negate them.
Perfectly said.

I expect the D will struggle this year. We just dont got the horses. We will have a middle of the road D this year. Big plays are gonna happen alot.

I also expect that our aggressiveness is going to cause alot of turnovers, which may or may not make up for the big plays. Time will tell.

I thought the secondary played well, not that theybwere challenged at all. The few big plays down the middle were a result of the young LBs not getting deep enough and making it a tougher throw. It will get cleaned up. But still expect some growing pains. We just can't afford to lose anymore bodies in either group.

briefly? I need to watch the replay to find out if we were just in the wrong coverage or if it was something else but what I saw was pretty **** scary if we had been playing a better team.

we will certainly give up more than 3 points to better teams we play. Good that we have a couple of glorified scrimmages to work on any assignment breakdowns before the meat of our schedule.
