briefly? I need to watch the replay to find out if we were just in the wrong coverage or if it was something else but what I saw was pretty **** scary if we had been playing a better team.

There were some busted assignments with guys running free but our DL put enough pressure to offset against FAMU. Against better teams that could have been an issue. I am sure against the better teams we won't be doing as many jailbreak blitzes either. Our staff knew who we were playing and played it accordingly.

yeah!i agree it will be more scary if palying a better team

They were fine. You are just not used to seeing them near the play. Al had them all standing on the goal line.

Comsidering that several, including the starting linebackers, had never played a college game and it was an entirely new system for all, you can't expect flawless football.

nothing that can't be clean up. That is why we have these practices games.

Manny Diaz said it perfectly. Of course your first game exposes thing you need to work on. I think that's really where coaches earn their money.

It's also a wake-up call for players to see where they came up short against another team. This was a perfect opponent to help you young guys learn without destroying their confidence.

It's all good at this point. Diaz knows what is to be done.

Freshmen are going to make mistakes. The more freshmen you play the more the mistakes are multiplied. It amazes me how people think that freshmen are going to play like upperclassman.

It's a boom or bust defense, especially considering the depth.

Get used to it.

You mean considering the DC. Diaz defense is always feast or famine, no in between. That's something we will have to deal with. We are going to give up big plays to everyone. Simple as that. But it's a fun D to play in so kids will be lining up to play in it.

No. We have 3 true freshmen LBs expect errors from time to time . Our secondary is elite.

Lack of depth is going to get magnified as the season goes on. True freshmen tend to wear out later on in the season, especially having to play as much as they will this year. It is definitely an improvement, but I think they're probably a couple of classes still. I just wish they'd have Kaaya for another year.

Just hope we can force some turnovers with our aggression and get a few key stops here and there because this defense is going to get lit up on the regular.

Coach Rick better be smart enough to realize he's going to have to get the offense humming because we're going to have to win some shootouts this season. Expect some 48-42 type games this season.

When we were in man to man we were good. It was when we went to zone and then some players (mainly Ss/LBs) were out of position, which is going to happen from time to time when you have so many young players. I don't believe we will be bringing the house 75% of the time on a regular basis.

Well Jimmy's defense was predicated on the same thing. Be aggressive, but big plays will happen. Just have to hope the aggressiveness causes enough negative plays or turnovers to negate them.

Yep my feelings exactly. I do think Kaaya pulls a Watson and comes back for another year to answer someone who posted earlier.

We definitely got caught looking into the backfield a couple of times and just letting receivers run by. Should be correctable.

Definitely some blown assignments against FAMU. To be expected with all the youth on defense. Better teams will take advantage of that but luckily Miami doesn't face a team that can complete a forward pass until FSU. The defense sold out on the blitz a lot against FAMU too. I'm hoping they can rely more on the front four getting pressure and not having to blitz so much. It is what it is though, an aggressive defense with a handful of inexperienced guys playing in it. They're bound to give up big plays here and there.
