Does 2017 (or better) need to be replicated in 2022?

I say yes to keep Nil recruiting & positive vibes going. What say you?
No. D’Erik King did not need a division title or an Orange Bowl appearance or a 10 win season to get an NIL deal. Ruiz is going to support the Canes even if we go winless this season. Mario is rebuilding the Canes via recruiting and that does not happen overnight.

2016 is what I want to see. They’re the only team in last 20 years to get better as season progressed and finish the year playing their best football. 2017 was euphoric for 2 games.... the rest of year was on par with what we’ve seen over the years. Fortunately they were the luckiest Miami football team I had ever seen or they would have been 8-4

Nothing needs to be replicated we are in a way better position now …just think of

Mario is on a driver seat
DC - Steele vs Danny Miaz
OC - Gattis Vs Thomas Brown
Ponce vs Jon Richt coaching QB
Charlie Strong vs Danny Miaz @ LB

We got TVD, Alonzo, Ruiz, Mas, all alumni and the town is on board

we are way better than 2017 not matter this season results which I believe will be better

I would like us to show out for the division. We show up to the ACCCG by beating the teams that we are supposed to. Would love to beat aTm but realize that is likely hopes and dreams. But beating the teams we are supposed to builds a strong foundation and getting to the ACCCG is what we should have been doing from the get go, so it rights the wrongs that have occurred for many years. Also gives up the momentum in recruiting that we will need to be on the up and up to compete with the monsters.

We need to temper some expectations. It took Kirby, what, 5 years to win a ship, and that's with a fully stocked team he inherited with the full muscle of an athletic program and school behind him.

And even then, it takes more than just resources.

There's a bit of luck involved as well when it comes to staying healthy.

Jameson Williams doesn't go down, and chances are Saban is crowned again.

OSU has arguably been the most consistent program in the nation at all positions, and they still haven't won a ship in almost 10 years.

We just need to look for progress and improvement, not get blown out in the games we do happen to lose, and win the games we're supposed to win with (1 or 2 upsets along the way). Let's start there.

Regardless of record, I think it's obvious when a team is good. If they can compete with A&M and Clemson that'll go a long way.

you want to go on a 4 game losing streak to teams that include UNC, FSU, and ND?

In a first year head coaches tenure it’s a lot more palatable than losing three games in a row to end the season after getting all the way to number two in the rankings.

What do you think recruit remember more? Finishing off scorching hot and a blowout bowl win or midseason slump with multiple close losses?

I’ll take Kaaya’s the season before over that one.

Would rather start off slow and end it on a roll than finish with a whimper.
What? 2017 was leagues above any of Kaayas seasons.

Ranked #2 in Playoff rankings going into the last week of the season. Coming off a top 5 beat down against a long time rival on game day.

There aren’t many teams who’ve been in that position in the last 10 years outside of bama/Clemson/Ohio st.

That year is still propping up our reputation and differentiating us a bit from the UNCs of the world to the younger generation.

After the 2016 season we got the 22nd ranked overall class. After the 2017 season we got the 12th ranked overall class. I think they remember that we won 10 games, actually played in the ACC Championship, dog walked ND at home, AND played in a NY6 bowl. It's crazy when you think of it. I'd love to start this season undefeated and then finish the season on a 3 game losing streak. We'd literally have a win over TAMU, FSU, College Game day win against Clemson in Death Valley, have the undefeated season spoiled by Pitt (again), lose in the ACC ship in a rematch against Clem (or NCST?), and be in contention for a NY6 bowl again.

Edit: Also, as someone mentioned above, we ended a losing streak against FSU in 2017.

Can't end on that losing streak. No way can we finish getting stomped out by clemson. That gap has to close big time. Avoiding that **** and letting Mario work is all we need.

If our season is like 2017, it would involve a win over a top 5 team towards the end of the season. Which would mean beating Clemson. The losing streak would be last game of the season, ACC Champ, and the following bowl game.

Shout it from rooftops brother. 8-4/9-3 first year is a great building block as long as we recruit well. Let's see what happens going into year 3 before we start trying to say 10/11 wins or bust.

If we ignore losing to ****** pitt(5-7), getting stomped by clemson in the acccg and then losing a bowl game would put a serious damper on, or verify a bad season. Either way it would have a negative impact on recruiting imo. Any recruits who held off committing in December might be lost with a bad bowl game. I would rather win those games than beat clemson and atm in the regular season. Show progress and end on a good note.. Mario will have something to work with talking to recruits.
