I voted No. As a gambler I want to risk higher. I don't like hiring older coaches and I'd prefer somebody who will emphasize paralyzing defense. Older head coaches seldom do that, as opposed to relying on passing and offense. I've had those criteria for decades so I'm certainly not going to ignore them for one example.

I understand the recruiting angle. Fragile, IMO. Lots of reliance on one aspect as opposed to the big picture. Butch Davis has never had to recruit with this stadium, at his current age, or with so much recent negativity and fired coaches attached to the program. We'd be nuts to ignore that those aspects will be used by other programs. He also can't put kids on track scholarships anymore.

I remember a guy who was always somewhat baffled on the sideline. Instead of knowing when to go for 2 it was like an enlightenment for him when somebody else on the sideline pointed it out.

I'm down the middle on him. I see the positives (best evaluator/developer in the history of college football; known floor of 9 wins per year) and the negatives (questionable ability to get the most wins out of that enormous talent he acquires; I'm not a guy looking to win 9 games a year; in his most recent gig he accumulated the most talent in the league and couldn't even finish 2nd in the Coastal) of Paul Hilton Davis.

I'd take him but only if we couldn't get the guys I like better.

We have the architect of the greatest college football team in history practically begging for the job.......what's the problem here? I know our fanbase is fickle, but think of where we've been with the last 3 coaches. It's Butch Fcking Davis!

You lived up to your name with your post.

I voted no for many of the same reasons people already listed in this thread.

Here's the thing, with Butch the worst case is he falls on his face on the coaching side and we fly the planes in 3 or 4 years. In the meanwhile he is winning 8 or 9 games. We run him out and he leaves a treasure trove of talent for next coach. Anyone else we hire we could get same wins results but a bunch of fat slow guys again. Butch comes with an insurance policy in case of failure.

I don't want to hire a guy thinking about firing him already. He's definitely a pretty safe choice because of his known floor (likely 9 wins here with no sanctions). I just wouldn't expect him to win quickly here, and I wouldn't expect anything special or innovative on either side of the football.

I remember Butch on the sideline also. Yeah, looked loss somethings. Then I think about how Larry won the next year with Butch's players. There is no way in **** Butch loses that year either. THe year before that team got better and better as year went on. No way Washington beats them later in the season. Howard and Bernie loss to the gator first game of our first NC team. No way they would have loss later in the year either.

Butch might leave a game or two on the field but he will bring another NC too. JJ got his *** beat in 3 Bowl games and cost us two NCs while he learned how to coach bowl games. By the, those were Butch's recruits too.

I remember also, a few moments, when we didn't have the players to do worth a crap, and he and his coordinators trying to figure out how to make chicken salad out of chicken ****.

31 scholarship losses really does limit your playbook, your rotation, and your options.

Like most here, I wanted him here after douchbag went into hiding trying to go to Penn State. Don't blow this Admin!

Some of these whack fans are like abused, battered women....they've been getting their brains beat in by all of these bad coaches for so long, they don't recognize when a good coach comes along and wanna rescue us.....they rather go through the torturous moments of potentially hiring a corch, b/c that's all they know, now. Smh.
