Do you think Florida Coaches are properly Developing Recruits?

There was definitely talk about this when Urban made those comments. I know some people on the board have been critical of the STA coaching.

Generally, I recall posters saying that high school coaching in Georgia and Texas is much better on the average. They pay coaches a lot more and I think the facilities are also better on the average too. I think @Coach Macho spoke on it a little IIRC so maybe he can chime in as can @gogeta4 , @Tee3000 and others, all of whom I’m sure do a great job in a field deserving of respect at a minimum for their community service.

I’m sure that Florida overall has some good individual coaches too so I don’t want to say this applies to everyone. We have coaches on this board, like those I named, who know a shît ton more than I’ll ever know so I’ll leave it at that.

You're on the right track. In GA, those big salaries go to HCs from maybe 10-12 programs in the state. Many of them have very little teaching responsibilities either. 2-3 weight training classes with mostly younger football players in one class and all the upperclassmen in another class. The real comparison is the rest of the schools. With rare exception, the teacher salaries are higher in GA and the cost of living is lower. My hats off to all the dudes that coach HS kids in SoFl. They do it for the love of the game and more importantly, the love of those kids. In the counties in GA I've worked in, our position coaches make more than HCs in SoFl and the cost to live here is much lower even in very safe areas. It's no surprise to me how many former SoFl coaches I run into up here citing they couldn't afford to raise their kids in SoFl. Nearly all these dudes are very good coaches. With better salaries here, most of the staffs are deep with coaching talent. The coaching is overall very good. I can't tell you if it's better than SoFl because I'm not down there. TX is the same as GA, but has many more programs that pay top $. I really wish the higher ups in FL education would pay teachers more $ and pour more $ into sports especially football and especially down in the State of Miami.

Yeah and most of em don't have to teach social studies or geography. They just coach.
 
Youth football pays nothing unless you've got a nice benefactor at your park that hooks you up with a little extra. Its just parents, former players, community guys, etc. that just want to help out. Considering South Florida has the best youth football in the nation and its not close, the coaching can't be THAT bad at that level.

When you get to the high school level, you get a 5K stipend before taxes on top of your teaching job (or some job you likely have with the school) to be the head coach, a few other coaches might get an assistant stipend 2K and change before taxes. Many others on staff are just volunteers.

I mean, per dollar, its the best coaching in America. Most programs, even the top ones, are nickel and diming the entire operation from staff to facilities, etc.
 
Public school coaches in Florida aren’t highly compensated. Many assistant coaches do it for free. The facilities are often underfunded and poor quality. A public school’s athletic budget often depends on how much it can make through local fundraising. Obviously, schools in poorer areas struggle to get much outside funding.

"Florida hs coaches are the best developers of talent in the world. The NFL wishes they had coaches that could develop even close to the worst south Florida HS coaches."

Lol that’s what was expecting but he may have said it’s accurate because of the money paid to coaches as professionals elsewhere.

True. But when you leave the classroom and pursue a graduate degree in administration and get promoted, the pay does not go up much at all and there are no bonuses or salary hikes. Complete BS. However I am happy for our teachers. They indeed deserve every penny
 
Florida kids were always underdeveloped. That's what college coaches like the most about our kids they alway have room for development/high ceiling guys.
