Do we see more 3-4 defense next year with Vernon leaving?

3-4 is a more attacking style of defense. It suits our players better than the vanilla ice cream 4-3

Pierre has enough athleticism to play end, illustrating the implementation of the 3-4 is well underway in Miami. He’s versatile and plays the run well. He’s undersized to play tackle, so a redshirt year to grow and learn the position might be the way to go.

Defensive end is a deep and talented position for the Hurricanes in 2011. With new defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio slowly installing a new look 3-4 defense, the Hurricanes will still base their defense this year out of the 4-3, playing to personnel strengths.

I can post the Temple vids from youtube too where I can show yall 90% of there snaps on D are in a 3-4

Bloggers? lol. Nothing from the coaches? fail. Again, the coaches said on wqam they'll be a 4-3 d with the flexibility to go to a 3-4 in certain situations.
I do remember Golden saying this in the press conference after he was hired. Not sure if anything has changed since then.

BigPoppaCane, you got that right.

We've had the same look, same non-assignments, same attitude for years with the 4-3.

I apologize for this analogy, but all through history, the great masters of warfare, separated by nation, continent, and even millennia state time and again that a good defense MUST be an offensive (attacking) defense.

By alternating our 'looks,' we can show one thing and do another, but the bottom line is to have an aggressive, attacking defense.

And that's more easily enabled with a 3-4.

Links to bloggers? That's nothing. If you're too lazy to go to wqam and listen for your self that's your own dam problem. I'm not the only one who heard it. It's basic knowledge.

What makes you think this?

really? Because he is his best when he goes after the QB and I think he will do even better standing up as a Will than at DE. His size and speed will transition well to the NFL IMO. I think he had a very good season this year considering everything that happened.

So your gonna ignore the fact I asked for a link for what you said...Got it. If they said it so many times it shouldnt be a big deal to get a link then Nites.

No....The coaches have already said Miami will be a 4-3 D with the flexibilty to be a 3-4 meaning the 3-4 will be secondary/situational.
Link? Everything Ive read says were switching to a 3-4 when we get the right guys.....

Coach O and Coach Golden said as much numerous tims on wqam. I doubt you've read or seen Miami is swicthing to a 3-4 from the coaches anywhere. I'd bet you're getting your info from some misc blogger.

Both coaches have said this in several interviews. 4-3 is our base defense, with the option to change into other formations (one being a 3-4 look)

And losing our best DE in Vernon makes the potential of more 3-4 looks likely. Also note how I said would we see more 3-4 looks with the losses on the DL, not are we going to switch to a 3-4 exclusively.

The 3-4 requires a huge NG and 2 285- 300lbs de's usually and 265lb's lb's or whatever. We don't have the personel to run a 3-4 especially at LB. I don't understand these baseless claims.

Gatech didnt need guys with those measureables to run their 3/4

DEs - 292 and 277
NT - 299
LBs - 235,240,240,222

......and Ga techs defense sucked. Are you serious? Ga Tech? That's part of the reason Ga techs 3-4 d is garbage.

With our DT depth and the fact we have bigger and stronger (albeit less explosive) ends, I have to think we will be giving more 3-4 looks out of necessity. Plus, the fact we recruited a ton of LBs the past couple of years could mean a shift in philosophy (remember the coaches saying "players first and then plays"?).

This was my point. I don't think we will play the 3-4 exclusively, but a lot more than last year.

Even better, if we have the players for both, we can mix it up pretty well.

But for a change, someway, somehow, we HAVE to start attacking again, and making plays in THEIR backfield.

Throws everything off.
