Looking at the 2015 Roster we will have we 16 LBs 1 being a SR. Next Year we currently have 3 comming in with only 1 leaving. So then we will have 18 LBs. After that season we will only have two leave with 3 more coming in, so then we will have 19 LBs. Keeping in mind we will only have 3 on the field at one time... the fourth LB spot is reserved for the "Rush". Doing some simple math with 18 LBs that means we are 6 Deep... Do we need to be 6 Deep at the LB postion?

I feel like a lot of those guys you're counting on the roster are walk on players

Well look at who we have at the position, the only good ones are grace, owens and kirby after them its kinda meh, perry will be a good one after him you again meh we need talent at that position especially in doritos D

I think Young is gonna be a real player at LB.

OLB-McCord/Owens/Goidiner
MLB-Kirby/Young/King
OLB-Grace/Gayot/Perry

McCord and Kirby are seniors.

Who am I missing for this season? I don't include walkons.

Just looking at the spring depth and there is not really true LBs after the first string. (SAM) Tyriq McCord was moved from end. Mike Smith is unproven. (MLB) Kirby is gone after this season and I have high hope for young but im not sure if MLB is his true spot. same for McCray. (WLB) Besides Grace it the same as SAM position. Gayot was originally a safety and Perry a end i believe. While it seems like we have alot of depth i would say that Golden is patching spots for depth purposes until he gets some true LBs in there.

SAM

58 Darrion Owens 6-3, 238 - SO

17 Tyriq McCord 6-3, 236 - SR

57 Mike Smith 6-1, 224 - R-FR

MLB

56 Raphael Kirby 6-1, 235 - SR

51 Juwon Young 6-2, 245 - SO

23 Terry McCray 6-3, 223 - R-FR

WLB

5 Jermaine Grace 6-1, 208 - JR

13 Marques Gayot 6-1, 220 - SO

34 CJ Perry 6-2, 212 - FR

RUSH

33 Trent Harris 6-2, 245- SO

8 Al-Quadin Muhammad 6-4, 260 - R-SO

31 Demetrius Jackson 6-5, 250 - R-FR

We do have a lot of LBs, but I don't see any "Miami" LBs on the roster after Kirby, Owens, Perry, and McCord (who I think will have a monster year this year). I think we will have some people leaving after Shaq, Pickney, and McCloud enroll.

I see you point, but half of that group are walk on's... For 2015 only 8 of the 16 are on schoolies...

Kids in play...
Gayot, Grace, McCord, Kirby, McCray, Owens, Perry, Young.

Everyone else is VERY much TBD or just hanging out...
Gabriel, Goldenberg, King, McGinnis, Stavestki, Sullivan, Tauber!

So for 2015, we have Grace, McCord and Kirby with real experience. Followed by Owens. Everybody else is very green... Right now, the 2 deep is very thin. If we suffer any injuries, we are in trouble.

There is a big movement to get better LB's on schoolies... We need 3 lbs every year, because injuries, transfers, red-shirts and early drafts chip away at the true number of players, which right now sits at 8 players, 4 with little experience. Those other guys are special teamers at best.

Bottom line, Shaq's class can't get here quick enough...

If we continue with the 3-4 front I think we're right on target. The cream will rise to the top. I'm actually pretty happy with our front 7 depth. Really curious to see how Wyche, Jenkins, and Moten progress in the middle.

Agree with Cuki. Poppa Shaq, respectfully, the only one above your boy in next year's 3-deep at middle is J Young, and he'll be a Junior. The only other true LBs (Will and Sam) are Grace, who will be a Senior, Owens, who will be a Junior, and Perry, who will be a Sophomore. Gayot, who will be a Junior, might make a successful transition from safety. That's 4.5 upperclassmen for 3 positions, or very thin for those three positions.

I do think we're overloaded at the Jack/DE position. But that's because we haven't produced anyone who has hurried the QB for years, so they're overloading there until they find the right formula. Besides, AQM is gone this year or certainly next. So the position is a huge ? in 2016. Need bodies to solve that. I hope D Jackson is the answer there.

Poppa Shaq. I wouldn't consider the walk ons in there and neither Harris and Djack towards the LB #'s

Jermaine Grace - SR
Darrion Owens - JR
Juwon Young - JR
Marques Gayot - JR
Terry McCray - rSO
Mike Smith - rSO
Charles Perry - rFR or SO
Jamie Gordinier - rFR
James King - rFR
Zach McCloud - FR
Mike Pinckney - FR
Shaq Quarterman - FR

It would be 12 linebackers. This is not including transfers, injuries, guys who don't pan out. Early entree into the draft.

I wouldn't be surprised to see maybe 1-3 of those linebackers currently on the team for 2016, not on the roster when 2016 rolls around.

Plus, McCray and Smith are big projects. No guarantees there. Same goes for King. I'm not that high on Gordinier either.

Uche position not set in stone yet. Could be a DE or OLB. And he is supposed to be class of '17 and is still growing. His dad and brother are both around 6'5"

Like you mentioned before. Competition will bring out the best. I truly do believe the '16 and '17 lbs are more talented than a good chunk of the current linebackers on the roster going into the 2016 season next year.

There are a lot of unknowns at LB. Does Gayoy make the transition and can Young take the next step to get on the field for more than special teams?

Love the kids we are bringing in but feel like we need to keep bringing talent in that can compete for spots from day 1 in 2016.

As long as you consider no transfers, suspensions, injuries or guys not panning out. You would be looking at in 2017.

Owens - SR
Young - SR
Gayot - SR
McCray - rJR
Smith - rJR
Perry - rSO or JR
Gordinier - rSO
King - rSO
McCloud - rFR or SO
Pinckney - rFR or SO
Quarterman - rFR or SO
Dunning - FR
Kearney - FR
Steed - FR
Wilder? - FR

Would be 14 or potentially 15 LB's. Not including transfers, injuries, guys not panning out, etc.

Too much unknown to worry about, everything will work out fine. The best will rise to the top.

We don't know for sure yet if McCray, Smith, King, and Gordiner will pan out. Project types.

We don't know yet if Gayot will have a good transition from safety to linebacker.

We don't know yet if Perry will be as good as we think he will be.

We don't know yet if Young would just snag the MLB spot yet cause he would be competing with your son Shaq for it that spring when he comes. No guarantees like I said. So much can happen to the LB unit from now until then.

I'll stand by it. At the very least 1-3 of the guys currently on the roster won't be here at that time.

Your son will be in the 2 deep the with a chance to start week 1. So no there are not too many LBs.

Can't turn away elite lb talent because you already have lesser talents guys at those spots. 3 or 4 of the guys in front of him aren't locks to contribute.

need 10-12 LBS on scholarship because they are the backbone of special teams.

The More variety of LBS the better. Gives the next staff lots of options for changing the scheme...
