Do we have a shot against FSU?

Garcia made 4-5 deep throws against UVA but didn't connect. Most were overthrown.

They weren’t even close.

It’s REALLY rare when you’re watching the TV broadcast, which only essentially shows 15 or so yards of the field, and the instant the QB releases the football, I say to myself, “Wow that’s overthrown.” I mean, the second he lets the ball go I can tell he’s overthrowing a government. Usain Bolt wouldn’t be able to run under these nuclear launched potatoes he’s throwing out there. He also threw a ball approximately 117 MPH to Brashard Smiff on an 8 yard route that should’ve been picked off a deflection. We gotta be honest here. Through a half a game coming on in relief and a full game as a starter against a putrid team, he has been nothing short of ******* terrible. Not ok. Not decent. Not promising. Absolutely awful.

If he plays against FSU, which obviously he is, we have to play a completely perfect game around him and he has to play markedly better for us to have a shot.

I'm not debating that nor did I defend his play. Don't know why you're even chiming in.

@AlexCane said, "I have been complaining about this week in, week out, but I would like to see Gattis take some deep shots."

Well we did and missed.

I was agreeing with you. Plenty of deep shots. They had 0.0 chance for success because they were thrown to Newport News.

Thread on 247 saying Mario said TVD would be back, they trippin?

Miami is winning **** THE BS!!

I hate to type that. But it looks pretty grim. Even if our D plays great, FSU can move the ball and score. Not likely to hold FSU to under 20. Based on what we saw Saturday, how do we get to 20 without cheap scores? Is it as grim as I think it is? Give me some hope. I am dreading Saturday.
Only chance we have is if the Dline stays in their rush lanes so the QB can’t scramble if not we have no chance

The keys to the FSU game are:

1) Stop the run game of Travis and their two RBs. Benson runs hard. Even Toa has a solid ypc. While Travis may be running less this year, that won't be the case against us. There's no way the FSU coaches won't try to take advantage of our weakness containing QB draws. Too much film of Duke's QB & running game shredding us for 200 yards. They will try to replicate that (especially behind the left side of their OL). The FSU game I watched had them running very effectively. The is the #1 thing to take away from them (their entire run game, including the scrambling of Travis). We should have a spy on Travis.

2) Cover their 6'7" receiver effectively: maybe Colbie Young should play both ways? If not, I do think our taller DBs should be able to do a decent job.

3) Limit Their Explosive Plays: as noted in other posts above, FSU lives off explosive plays. Keep everything in front of us & force them to make many throws & runs to score (instead of giving up massive chunk plays). Travis will make mistakes if he's forced to throw say 4-7 times per drive.

4) Run Effectively: we need to have great run blocking like we did against UVA and Texas A&M. Big Anez & the other OL need to create some nice running lanes for our RBs. FSU's defense isn't all that. It isn't close to the heydays. They have some issues on D.

5) Target Colbie, X and Ladson heavily: Colbie needs to ball out in this game & have a coming out party on the national stage. X needs to do his thang & have at least 5-6 catches for 60-70 yds. Ladson needs to be a highly dependable chain mover at minimum.

6) Use our TEs Heavily: we've always given FSU fits with our TEs. Heavy doses of Mallory, Skinner and the Khalil Brantley. These three can feast on FSU. USE THEM A LOT!!!

7) Spread 'Em Out & Let Jake Take Some Deep Shots: Don't limit Jake too much so he can establish a rhythm & score some points. Spread them out & get the ball to our playmakers in space. FSU's D is vulnerable. Jake simply needs to distribute the ball efficiently to our skill position guys & let them do their thing. Play like Josh Allen who makes it look so simple (surveys the field & takes the easy throws most of the time).

8) Limit Turnovers & Penalties: Got to be super disciplined & avoid penalties & TOs like the plague. Got to make good decisions. Their DL will bring some heat so Jake needs to have a really polished plan for dumping the ball off to the RBs/outlet, scrambling or throwing the ball away when they blitz. This should help him view blitzes as opportunities (if he can retain his composure).

Go Canes!

Fsu is a problem schematically , they use a lot of window dressing. Motion everywhere and we’ve proven to be vulnerable to that. Eye discipline will be huge.
this was my thought we have been awful at biting the first thing we see you know fsu going to test that early and often with counters and the route combo on the left side of the field where one does an out the other a streak coupled with a rpo our safety always bites on the run/ out leaves the streak 1v1 we have seen the play in like 3/4 and it's been there each time.

we need to force some turnovers as good as the D has been we havent been able to create turnovers. gotta get a couple to stay in this one.

The most messed up thing about all this is that this is the first time in the last 22 years of me being a fan… through all the bad teams we’ve had, that I’ve ever realistically doubted our ability to beat FSU. No matter what the records were, it all evened out on that Saturday night. If the light doesn’t come on for us this week in practice. If we don’t make the decision that were tougher Than what we’re exhibited thus far. Prime time this Saturday night could get real ugly… real fast. I hope our boys are tightening tf up, because we, as a unit, can’t take a 48-0 from the Noles.

LT and hopefully Mesidore will get to Travis early and often. Take him out of the game and the backup is easier. JHH and Jackson need to be on this week, too
I love our D-Line, very physical and aggressive , I believe it’s one of the best fronts in CFB.
