should they lose to a bad Vatech team next week, should Mario and Co go with a full blown youth movement and do what Butch Davis had no choice but to get guys like Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, Dan Morgan, Bubba Franks, Damione Lewis, Edgerrin James, etc, and take your lumps and build for the future. Yes, you can argue Butch did this out of necessity, but looking at the big picture, it was the right thing to do.

It wasn't always pretty, especially in 1997, but there was a bigger picture. Build for the future. And if you're going to be bad -- be young, at least. By 1998, you could clearly see signs of progress. That this thing was going in the right direction.

Moving forward, starting with a bad Vatech team, I would love to see more of the younger guys who seem to have a higher ceiling(Skinner, Wes B, Chase Smith, Cooper, Nyjalik Kelly, Colbie Young -- who certainly earned more snaps) over the players who have already reached theirs.

If this is a rebuild, I say start now and get the process started, and really hasten this culture change. Also, show recruits that playing the best players isn't just lip service.

Anyways, disappointing loss, I flew out, actually still had a good time in Miami. Hey, nobody said this was going to be easy....

I don't think we need to wait until after Virginia Tech, I think we start that now.

Coaches seem to be slowly incorporating more of the younger guys (Wesley, Skinner, Kelly), but would like to see some guys a little more.

Don't think we've seen Graves play at all, would like to see more Cooper and I think Colbie Young made as strong case as anyone for playing time.

agreed, work them into the rotation (on an even greater basis) starting this week, regardless of the result of this past week, or moving forward...

Moss said in an interview that 97 season is what got the train moving.

Seeing freshmen playing (Starting with the WR corps) showed the team anyone can get in and compete. According to him, that sparked the competitiveness that would carry on through to Coker

If we lose to VT, who has less talent and who also has a brand new coaching staff, then that’s a pretty damning and horrible indictment on who’s running things at UM at this time.
also butch dealt with actual issues beyond football. Mario has been given everything and more to coach here. its very diff situations. we need to stop this doing butch Mario comparisons. @SWFLHurricane will tell you that

to me Season is lost. id agree in getting them in and rolling the dice. were losing to teams we shouldn't as it is. job security is there. you could go 3-9 and it wont matter. if we get young guys more reps and more comfortable to step into larger roles next year im good. at least I know we aren't trying to win anymore vs what were doing now

The only way the coastal is still possible is if we win out (nope) and unc loses twice. Needless to say……

Seasons over so play the kids. No more Ivey Flagg justice and please play the young corners

If VT is who we think they are, it's the perfect opp to play the younger guys where needed. Their inexperience won't be the liability that it could be at a different time.
