Do fans want the Canes to lose?

I keep seeing everywhere on this board people who are "die hard fans" picking the canes to get blown out tonight. While it's not out of the realm of possibility (nothing is with this team), a lot of things are in the Canes favor to win tonight or at least keep it close. Weather isn't terrible for this time of year with temperatures in the high 40's with clear skies and almost no wind, Luther Maddy and Chase Williams are out so Duke and Yearby should have their way and VT isn't a GT or Nebraska that runs 90% of the time so our defense shouldn't be AS bad. Even every ESPN analyst picked us to win tonight.

The coaching staff, especially on defense, has looked inept and I don't trust them to stop anyone, but the level of doubt and pessimism on this board is beyond belief. My question is: are you fans deliberately rooting for the 'Canes to lose big tonight? For either an "I told you so" moment or just so Al getting fired becomes a reality?

The program is nowhere near where it needs to be and can't seem to get serious momentum going in the right direction, but why direct all the passion towards negativity instead of winning? I love that fans care enough to demand change, but that is different than deliberately rooting for your team to lose, especially in college where players decide where they want to go. A dominant offensive performance on national TV could help sway some South Florida natives to UM over UF.

I think you are confusing expecting to lose with wanting to lose.

And even the people that express wanting to lose, very few of them are going to sit there ****ed off when a cane player makes an awesome play.

Some Canes fans want changes and they want them now. And the quickest way to get those changes and get a new coach in here is for the Canes to lose. While I understand the thinking, it's not something that I could do and or want to do myself. Always root for a Canes win.

Fans want the Canes to win conference titles and national championships. It is obvious that this staff is inept and will never produce the results UM fans want/expect. As a result, some fans figure that the only way UM will achieve the goals the fans want them to achieve is through a coaching change and that mounting losses will expedite the process of a coaching change.

I do not root against the team because I think Al is bad enough at his job that he doesn't need me to root for losses. I also think that the schedule is favorable for UM and that it is more likely that Al will win some of the remaining games, so I hope he wins enough games that some other school takes him off UM's hands as that would be a win-win for everyone. I say it will be a win-win as we get rid of him and don't have to eat his buyout.

Expecting them to lose is one thing, but people have so passionately defended their position on the Canes really falling flat that it seemingly demonstrates a desire to lose.

A lot of people on here have accompanied their lopsided predictions with "just watch" or "no chance" as if the Canes getting crushed will make their point. The point of my thread was that misguiding their passion and frustration towards losing during the week is just as annoying and unhelpful. People who have logical thoughts or analysis on why they expect us lose is completely different than fervently defending a position on why the Canes have no chance.

If they are cheering on the Canes loud and proud when they do well and not sitting there ****ed off when a cane player makes an awesome play, then reflect that the rest of the week instead of bashing the canes chances at winning a game with no well reasoned explanation besides "we suck", which most college football fans actually expect us to win.

That being said, I could never root against my team, it's not in my blood. It just baffles me the amount of people who can, even for a second. I don't want Al here next year, but hopefully his body of work from the last few years is enough to show he can't get it done at the level we need to be.

We want Al gone, by any means necessary.

I moved to virginia and have to live near these peckerwoods. I'd rather we lose today, than continue to get trounced annually by a second rate school like VT. Also, in the best years, VT are second tier and they OWN us over the last 20 years. Its a **** disgrace.

We the boss, not sure how you'd rather see VT win but can't you comprise at rooting for the Canes to win a shootout and score 48 points so D'Onofrio has to be gone at the end of the season? No way Blake can allow Al to keep ignoring horrendous defense.

Golden is the problem. Firing D'Onofrio is like quiting smoking after you have lung cancer.

Golden is not a good coach, has lost total respect of his players in the locker room and has none of the UM killer instinct. I badly hope he is gone, but still don't know how to watch the Canes and get excited about them giving up points.

Hopefully a new president will want him gone bad enough that there is an "amicable" split and he accepts another job at Kansas or something and we don't have to deal with his expensive buyout.

Call me a Golden Slurper all you want but I want the Canes to kick *** on National TV.

I flew out from California to watch em beat the Bearcats, I was one of the 10 people left in the fourth quarter, and will do the same in a few weeks and hope they spank FSU when I am there.

Rooting for Duke, Yearby, Berrios, Kayaa...

yes i want the canes to lose. want the whole staff fired, not just donofrio. lets say we win a 21-17 game tonight, how truly happy will you feel? i mean yea it's fun to watch the canes win. but doesn't it bother you at all that al just bought himself another season? dont have kids, but i would imagine its like taking your kid to the doctor. it must suck watching him cry and have to get a shot, but you know its good for them. we arent ecstatic wanting them to lose (but i will be ecstatic whenever we finally fire golden). to be honest i would almost just rather not watch and hope the outcome was a loss...but i love watching our guys play, love seeing kaaya and his potential, yearby and his potential, etc, so i can dream about how sweet it will be when we're back on top.

I seriously hope we lose every remaining game on the schedule.

Not being bowl eligible in Golden's FOURTH year would speak a lot louder than any public outcry or empty seats.

It would be a downright embarrassment that the administration would get sick of having to respond to.

It's the best case scenario for the future of this program, both short and long term.
