I’d like to see numbers from blitzing versus 4 man fronts. We blitzed alot Friday

Well a few numbers on Dropbacks:

Wake:
Blitzed = 31 (60%), 16 Pressures (52%), 0 sacks, 2.8s avg TTT, 8 1st downs, 79 QB Rating. 3 hits while throwing and 4 throw aways
No Blitz = 20 (40%), 11 Pressures (55%), 3 sacks, 3.07s avg TTT, 7 1st downs, 116.7 QB Rating. 0 hits while throwing and 1 throw aways

Stanford:
Blitzed = 22 (52%), 5 Pressures (22.7%), 1 sack, 2.50s avg TTT, 7 1st downs, 75.3 QB Rating. 1 hit while throwing and 0 throw aways
No Blitz = 20 (48%), 2 Pressures (10%), 0 sacks, 2.51s avg TTT, 4 1st downs, 57.3 QB Rating. 0 hits while throwing and 0 throw aways.

Great posts about team pressures, Blount and, blitz percentages! It shows we are elite at putting pressure in all sorts packages on defense. We just need to work on LB and DB coverages and communication issues on the back end. We really need to get a lot better on pass coverage

Blount is doing his thing, I can see that he’s almost putting it all together. Needs to be a little better with his hands, but as long as he stays healthy he will progress as the season goes along.

I have some concerns with the depth. Hoping one of the young guys can step up and provide some quality snaps at DT/DE. Still think McConathy should have stayed at DE, whether Lowe was here or not.

Would like to see out LBs get more involved with rushing the passer as well or put someone out there that can.

Ya the whole McConathy thing is a bit of a mystery…To be ready to contribute that early (not saying I thought he'd be a star) to becoming like. 5th string TE is weird.

The injury was that bad?

Thought there was at least a high floor there to be a top 4 or 5 DE on the team by 2nd or 3rd year, even if that was his ceiling

He's on the field, making plays, disrupting passes and causing safeties whilst being held most of the time.

Not to mention that he's been asked to rush with inside techniques, which wasn't his strong suit coming in and he's still beating OTs. He's fine. We're fine.

As much as the second half was frustrating to see from a defensive standpoint, the fact is that we flat out did not allow a first down for consecutive drives. They can do it despite 25000 injuries, it's a matter of executing consistently.

If you are looking for stats and high tackles, you probably will never like him but watching the tape, you will see his impact. Would I want him to be a tackle machine with no impact on game or actually causing impact plays like getting multiple holding calls, putting actual points on board with safety, getting pressure and rushing throw on a 4th down where QB had guy in endzone for td but throw was bad, and causing pressure that led to INT and got penalty for hold.. If he gets that type of gamechanging impact in games we need. Ill take it.

When the game turns to a pass game and the opponent has to pass, he will help us big time. He is being asked to do alot and be versatile, he spoke on it in presser this week. He is being asked to do things he never did before so he proabbly overthinking but when he rushing the passer, he is making his impact felt.

He was asked this week, what his biggest adjustment is of whats being asked of him and he said overall versatility, they asking him to play 3 tech sometimes, inside basically, edge, field end, rush, drop into coverage, etc. He wasnt asked to do anything other than rush at last school. when he was asked why they were able to get 44 rushes compared to other games, he said Wake was actually trying to win and it was first game starters were able to get in a groove and play full game.
