he was fat and lost hella speed from his frosh year
I’ve never seen this “hella “ speed he had as a freshman tbh as he didn’t look that fast on that run he had vs Wisconsin or even vs unc where he got hawked down because of a bad angle. he’s a mid 4.55-4.60 guy and hopefully the change in dropping weight and body fat percentage helps him at least to the point where he can out run Savannah state defenders now

never said he HAD hella speed but he def. got substantially slower by the weight he put on his soph year

Felder bulked him up more than 20 lbs last year! No one can put on 20 lbs of good lean muscle that quickly, most of it was fat and he played way to heavy last year
Hasn't Zion exploded in weight since arriving by an even bigger factor?

Zion Nelson came to the Canes in January at 235 lbs and is up to 275 lbs and is being praised, and may actually start on the OL.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess he didn't put on 40 lbs of fat

he looked way different last year, his ND runs that stop and go speed was gone last year. It had some effect in that cutting ability.

He's never been a track speed guy. He has very quick feet and great change of direction. He definitely lost some of that last year from his freshman year.

And did some really good things. He should be a notch better this year!

He was never super fast in the first place. If you're going to be a 4.6 running back, better to be a 4.6 running back at 225 than 195. He probably rushed a bit too much trying to gain mass and he got a bit sloppy. I think he's fine in the 215-220 range. I swear some of you guys want the whole team to weigh 175 pounds.

Also, Nelson is a 6'4" Offensive tackle. We want him to gain weight. Even if it's not all muscle. Linemen need pure mass. Dallas is a 5'10" running back. Totally different body type. We want him to bulk up from where he was in high school but it has to be lean mass. Packing on pure muscle is much harder than just gaining weight.

..article on TOS

"The biggest difference with Dallas compared to last season? He's improved his conditioning. Dallas played at 17 percent body fat last year. He says he is now down to 9.6 percent body fat and has trimmed his weight down to 213 pounds."

...**** what the **** did felder have him eating?
Gator !!

Correct.

No OL anywhere are carrying less than 10% body fat. I doubt any are under 20%, or even under 25%.

Zion's growth spurt is due to his being 17-18 years old, his genetics, and working a high-level D1 S&C/Nutrition program. I still doubt he added 40lbs of muscle unless he is using PEDs.

Exactly. Plus we don't know what kind of nutrition he was getting in high school. He may not have been eating a lot. A dude that size can easily put down 5000 calories a day when combined with an intense training regimen. Probably even more.

Yes. Of course, the 'of muscle' line is a bit of hyperbole.

Was it not reported that Zion’ s family couldn’t afford to feed him to bulk up? Or am I imagining that?
