Dino Babers

I thought he’d be great. Killed the lower levels and led Syracuse to their best season in forever.

Something is rotten up there. They had a ton of opt-outs, too.

Same here. In the couple of days between the time that Richt resigned and Manny was hired, I was hoping that we would take a good hard look at him.

I have no idea what happened since then. I thought he had shown something at the lower levels, like you said, and done a pretty **** good job at Syracuse which is a hard place to win at. Just don’t understand what’s happened since.

The good Syracuse teams had alot of talent from neighboring eastern PA and New Jersey...this is no longer happening. Heck, they can't keep local talent home..The Big10 have taken their recruiting grounds and it will get worse with Schiano at Rutgers.

Why? Bc he's having a bad year at Syracuse?
Dude, you know this board. If someone says, "this guy would be a good coach" or "hope we sign Player X", and something even close "bad" happens, it will be pointed out. It's how we cope. Several years ago, Babers was position to get a better job. That's why Syracuse administration gave him a raise and an extension. At the end of 2018, Babers had Syracuse 10-3 with a bowl win and a top 15 finish.

What happened was simple. Shafer had a decent eye, left that place in a decent spot talent wise, and Dino couldn’t match it at all. I expect a change and for Cuse to go after former coach Doug Marrone. Marrone is a terrible NFL coach just like Schiano but he knew how to find talented HS kids. Nassib, Chandler Jones, Justin Pugh, Arthur Jones, Mike Williams, and Sharmarko Thomas were all his kids at Cuse.

This is why I take very few of posters here seriously. Folks were pounding the table for Babers here as recently as 18 months ago. Guy had a 10 win season with Marrone's upperclassman and is 14-32 otherwise.

Yet another example of what is likely a **** fine coach not succeeding.

Winning is hard man.

Which is why I always chuckle at all the arm chair DCs and ADs on here who knee jerk solutions to our "problems".

Keep building talent and depth, make an offer from the U a prize not a stepping stone to something better, maintain coaching continuity if possible, develop QBs and win games you're supposed to.

Obviously things don’t look the same now but it did back then. They beat Clemson and got 10 wins. Oh well you win some and lose some.

Great points, great post.

Babers is not very good. he won with the kids that were already there. 5th season at Cuse and its all players he recruited. Glad he didnt get the Miami job.

A coach has to be able to do it for two or more years in a row. These one good season hire him types are always worshipped here.

Dmoney is right as well the higher ups can't be fried
