Did not Realize

Nah I was on Mendoza from the rip . I was not on Beck and argued with people about him. Now I somewhat came around on him when I heard the other options lol. But every post you’ll see of mine was be prepared for Beck and his bipolar play. The ultimate streak shooter.
Got ya! Thats who it was. I wasn’t in on Beck either. Accepted him after the fact and he was the only option.

Beck has more tattoos and was involved with a Cavender twin(there's the difference)! Give me Beck!

Wow, Wasn’t he the kid at cal last year , supposedly UM fan ? What gives

thoughts

(Beck has played tougher schedule imo)
When Mendoza entered the transfer portal last December, a host of college programs called Dunn hoping for a second chance. Georgia and the hometown Miami Hurricanes were among the most notable, but in the end, Mendoza decided he wanted to play alongside his younger brother, Alberto, at Indiana.

I am begging you guys to watch other football teams play. Watch Indiana’s games. There are no less than 20 QB’s in FBS that would have them undefeated right now. It’s not all Mendoza, it’s Cignetti and his entire offense.

I welcome you to go back to this board when Mario was recruiting a transfer. Cis was killing him talking about nepotism and Cuban mafia

I believe Mario didn’t pick Mendoza because if the extra added pressure on both himself and Mendoza should things have gone sideways. I don’t think that would be fair to his friends son.

You’re using hindsight to discredit Mario, but he can’t see the future. This board would freak the **** out of Mendoza was our QB and played poorly.
Admittedly I was against bringing in Mendoza so I don’t disagree with you on what the board sentiment was at the time, even though those weren’t my reasons BUT LOL @ the bolded.

Mario picked Beck because he’s infatuated with UGA’s style of offense and thought Beck was the perfect guy to run it. It’s why you saw the narrative of the Hecht along with its surrogates change after last season about how “we weren’t going to be as explosive on offense but we’ll lean on our run game, be more efficient and take the “check downs”” and other ridiculous takes. Which the fateful gladly parroted.

Do I know if Mendoza would’ve been better in this system? I have no clue but Mario certainly didn’t think so. It had nothing to do with protecting his friend’s son and their feelings. Although that is a heartwarming narrative.

Almost like the board freaks out when we play poorly...

Interesting

Zero chance Mario did not pick Mendoza for the reason you listed. And if he did, Mario is not recruiting the best and trying to win if he is recruiting based on feelings. Get that **** out of here....

I disagree. And I didn’t just mention pressure on the kid, I said Mario himself.

Mario has a ton of leash from the admin and boosters. If he starts doing things like bringing in a friends son to play starting QB, and it turns out to be a failure, all the leash is gone. Look at how quick Mark Richt lost credibility with fans and boosters when his son was QB coach, and our qb sucked.

It was risk reward. If Mario thought beck and Mendoza were equal, I guarantee he picks beck. Way less pressure on himself in doing so.

If you think politics doesn’t play into huge recruiting decisions like bringing in a one and done, $4-6M qb , then idk what to tell you.

Read what I just responded to another guy above. There’s 0.0 chance that if beck and Mendoza were evaluated equally, that Mario would pick Mendoza. I also believe even if Mendoza was evaluated slightly higher, they’d still pick beck to avoid the nepotism narrative

Columbus Cartel was going to say no to Mendoza? Nah.

Misread the Mendoza play, eggs in Mateer basket (unwise), then had to get Beck to avoid Emory DaGawdawful. Just like the politics that Lyle held us hostage in terms of recruiting an RB1, TVD holding us hostage.

Mario needs to be better. Period.

It’s absolutely wild! In one thread it’s “Mario’s an alpha who doesn’t care what fans say nor should he” which is fine then the next it’s “he thought this QB could really help him win but he was afraid that if it didn’t work out fans may complain”.

this is 100% false

Again I wasn’t in favor of bringing in Mendoza but LOL at comparing Mendoza who was a top 4 sought out transfer QB to Jorn who was a GA no one wanted but his dad. I’m sure the booster would’ve been livid that they spent that money on Mendoza instead of a guy coming off of major Tommy John like surgery who couldn’t even throw until 4 or 5 months after they gave him those funds. Definitely no high risk there.

Also, you know Mario was the coach here when Mendoza graduated right? Yet he didn’t offer him when he got here when it would’ve cost him nothing. He also didn’t offer him while he was at Oregon. Why? He knew his father and him back then.

It’s ok if Mario missed, he’s not infallible. Much better coaches have missed on much better players, it happens. No need to spin these wild narratives.
