Did I see that correctly??

Cincy called for a fair catch on an onside kick and thus drew a penalty when Memphis went after the ball. That’s fcuking genius coaching and awareness.

Either that or #81 is just a smart as **** football player, he might've just changed the whole game up, cause in all the years, i myself have never thought of that one, and it looks like he did it on instincts or just smarts, either way, he's probably a headcoach in the making. Which kind of already tells me one thing, this norvell guy that Fsu is getting will have that team playing smart football. Coach diaz definitely is going to have to step his coaching game up and shut his talking game down. He running his mouth as if he's a proven headcoach with a proven system, right now what you are coach diaz is. a .500 headcoach, so at 6 & 6, you shouldnt be talking like you are the headcoach of a proven operation, and clearly its not..

Exactly. You're supposed to kick an onside to take a short hop and then the big hop to give your guys a chance at recovery. If you pooch it, it's no different than a full blown punt or kick off.
Can’t the receiving team call a fair catch on any kick? I just think it’s an interesting situation, how do you allow a fair catch anywhere on a “regular” kick-off, but not on and onside kick? Leaves a lot open to the officials interpretation.

Yeah, i meant to go back and correct myself, lol, but that #81, i think he did that on his on, i think he done changed the game up, notice the explanation by the refs, seemed like a real careful explanation, cause now, that fair catch more than likely gone become a trend now, but im sure the rules committee is gone try and figure out how to switch it up if it does. Im sure even bill belicheat was impressed!

If it doesn't hit the ground I'm sure you can do a fair catch on any kick
It's the reason kickers hit the top of the ball, making it bounce high. Poor coaching when the kicker just pops it up. Huge no no, for this reason.

Reading this made me think I was reading a book written by a 10yr old child

If it hits the ground immediately, you can't fair catch it. That said, when a kicker tops the ball, and it goes in the air, a smart player will call for the fair catch. It's similar to the old "If you fair catch a punt, you can take a free kick with no rush from that exact spot" rule. It's a rarely utilized part of the rulebook, but those that know, or have seen it done before are going to use it.

A fair catch becomes Null once the ball hits the ground. That's why Kick off specialists are supposed to bounce the ball off the ground for onside kicks. So no, the is no opinion factored in. Either the ball bounced or it didn't. Same for punting. Fair catch just means a defender can not impede the receiving player when hes trying to catch the ball. But just like a pass, it's no longer deemed a catch if the ball hits the ground first
